Hello all,

I'm hoping somebody can help me... I've done a search but came up with nothing.

I installed the side chrome kit (Vespa) on my GTV 300.

However, now the seat won't close or latch...even when slammed.

Just wondering if anybody else ran into this and any ideas of solutions.

Thanks.

You can loosen the lock with two bolds. Then place some washers under the lock till it close. Problem solved.

Hi Marc,

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply.

When you say loosen the lock with two bolts...do you mean the latch? I couldn't seem to find any bolts. Maybe I just need to look closer.

I did manage to get a temporary fix by removing the gasket under the seat. I don't plan on riding in the rain anyway, so I think that may work. Oddly, when the "bowl" (where things are stored) was removed, the seat closed fine...but once back in, it had a problem.

I'll look for those bolts again.

Your help is appreciated!

It's the latch... at both sides you find a screw and not a bold i mean.

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

But first you need to remove the black plastic which is over the latch (4 screws) And then you see the screws (11) at the picture.

sounds like something is holding the pet carrier (bowl) up and not letting it fully seat down.

I had the same problem as the OP. Basically what needs to be done is you will be raising the whole mechanism (#10) with the washers underneath it. If you raise it too much your seat will not "pop" when you press the open button and you will need two hands to open the seat. You may have to play with different size washers.

Marc, thank for the diagram...that helps tremendously!

Old as Dirt - I thought that as well...but it sits just fine...no gap between it and the chasis.

Max - thanks for the further advice, especially about not raising it too high. I'll just have to do as you suggest and try different size washers and/or number of them.

For now, as I said, it's working okay...but there's no gasket.

I do really appreciate you all attempting to help and chiming in. Thanks much!

This is pretty common. The tolerances for some of the accessories are rediculous, if they even exist.

I had the same problem when I installed my bars. I noticed it got easier and easier to close the seat after a few weeks. I ride every day, so that may not be the case for everybody. I was just very careful when closing the seat so I didn't damage the lock. I now notice that the underside of the seat pan has a few scratches that exactly line up with the mounts for the bars, so it probably just took time to break in (literally!). Haven't had any issues in years.

Perhaps just helping those scratches along a little might do the trick.

In England
Additionally, I spoke to a tech in England and they claim that they tap (With Hammer) the end piece of the side bars that goes under the seat to flatten them so they fit under the seat better.

Perhaps a bit of both. My problem gets worse because I want to use the Saddle Bags from Urbano Tucano. See the video on my blog and you will see what I mean.
