We went to our local Claim Jumper restaurant. I can report that I had the best Thanksgiving dinner ever. We split two appetizers, one hot spinach and artichoke dip, and one shrimp and avocado salsa. Next we had caesar salads. Then came the traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Finally we had pumpkin and apple p*ie. The turkey came with roasted veggies, potato, stuffing, gravy, cranberries, a roll with butter, and melt in your mouth turkey breast. Every dish was superb. Honestly, I think it was the best meal I've ever eaten. And I've been to some pretty swanky places in my time. A hearty two thumbs up for the Claim Jumper!!!

I did not have green beans with condensed soup!
Had a lovely time at both of the events we went to today. Looking forward to having friends over tomorrow. My parents have been hosting a turkey frying open house for over 10 years. Beautiful 55 Deg and sunny in Denver today. |

Dinner Report...it's got simple...
We used to have potluck dinners...food preparation was an event!
Then we went to purchasing a complete dinner (turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, rolls and pumpkin cupcake) from local restuarant or hotel...these were really God sent...great food and no fuss! Today my wife picked up a complete individual dinner portion x 2 from a local market that set up a Thanks Giving lunch offering. Then went down to Safeway and picked up their Special Holiday cranberry sauce (cranberry and orange)...I also believe they add a little pineapple juice. This concoction is a great balance of tartness and sweetness. Finally made our way down to pick up a pre-ordered Specailty cupcake at one of our local specialty bakeries..."Larry's Bakery" a pumpkin / custard combo. They had to have a Special Duty Police Officer at their pick up table! If you're ever on Oahu go to Larry's and get their apple cupcake...it's a hole in the wall operartion but worth the effort! Well it's just two of us having our Thanks Giving dinner...very simple... BTW, I typed in cupcake but the posting embeds "cupcake?"...well it's a cupcake "Happy Thanks Giving!" to all! |

I let my kid make the stuffing casserole style. We forgot to take the foil off prior to serving to allow it to toast on the top. It still came out okay. I tried a brine solution this year. Didn't get to let it soak very long but the turkey came out pretty good. I made 4 pumpkin pies. One got a bit toasted on the crust. My oven has a broken door so the heat is very uneven. That cupcake is a give away. Oddly enoug I am usually a pig and go back for a second helping. I think all the rum and cokes stopped me from doing that. Moderate size helpings and I was stuffed after the first plate. It was the fun conversation being with the girlfriend and step kids that truly made the evening enjoyable.

The food was great but for me the best part was that we ate in the same little dining room that has been the scene of every Thanksgiving I've ever been a part of. My father bought the house in 1958 and over the years someone in our family has always lived there and we've always had Thanksgiving there, even though there are now bigger, "better" houses available. It's my sister's house now and whatever the real estate people might say it's worth, the value of such a thing is beyond reckoning.

We all gathered at my brother's house in Wrightwood. I think our count was 28 family members in attendance. With 1 roast turkey, 1 fried turkey (we're so happy we didn't burn down the mountain as this was our first fried bird) and a ham. Every family that came brought a few pies it was odd we had cupcake overload! My sister has a popular blog for her city so we had to do a cupcake tasting contest to pick the best cupcake in the city. Sadly Marie Callendar's won but I thought the local restaurant had the best one!
It was a great gathering and a strong show of support from the family - we lost one of our uncles this week from a long time illness and Dad is in the hospital, he'll be fine and out tomorrow though. The holiday was a fantastic distraction from it all for us. |

My parents have been hosting a turkey frying open house for over 10 years. Beautiful 55 Deg and sunny in Denver today. Our purchased meal for 10 from the grocery store went well. Just takes 2 hours to heat everything and you are ready to carve turkey. I overate, as usual. My weakness is stuffing and mashed potatoes with gravy. I read on the web that you have to walk 28 miles to burn off the calories from one helping of a Thanksgiving dinner. I ate so much I will have to walk to New Mexico to burn it off. I took a nap after dinner, since I had to be to work at 11:00 PM. My wife was visiting a neighbor, so we left notes back and forth. Just as I was getting ready to leave, I noticed an orange spot on the kitchen ceiling. WTF, it looked liked rust and I feared a leaky roof. I left my wife a note and learned this morning that when she was packing up take-homes for family, she dropped the container of squash. It went all over the counter and cupboard front, but she didn't see it hit the ceiling. Well, 5 second rule in place. she had it scooped up and back in the container in the flash of a turkey tail, all but the overhead display. |

I usually do most of our holiday meals, but my wife is a great cook in her own right. I had to work Thanksgiving until 2:30 pm, came home to a house full of guests. The meal was cooking well under way. I showered and sat down to relax, have a drink or three and watch football with family and friends. My only job was to carve the turkey.
My wife Diane did a fabulous job and the meal was enjoyed by all (thanks sweetie!). A memorable Thanksgiving for me. |

We did our usual TG at our cabin. We have a small family (10)... the food, and company was great. My wife tried a new cauliflower casserole this year which was off the charts. The beer and wine was pretty good too.
