Modern Vespa

Got this new Vespa "mono" gel saddle yesterday.
I found the new 2012/2013 accessories catalogue on a forum and found this :

I've made some more pictures using a flash to show the difference in texture between the fabric you sit on and the fabric used for the flanks of the saddle.

The fabric you sit on is a even/uniform satin black synthetic material :

The material used for the sides of the saddle has a more "nylon" effect.
The color is a very dark grey. The sewing is light grey.

On the back, a small "VESPA" logo pressed in the fabric. (5cm / +-2 inch long)

Nice seat! would that fit a GT 200?

If the seats of the GT & GTS are the same, no problem at all.

No. You'd need to remove the "duck tail".

Very nice. Can the grab rail stay on? I see it is absent in the catalogue picture, as well as on your own Gts.

Grab rail can stay on. The seat has the same kind of "cut-away's" for the grab rail as the original seat.

Yes, but you also need to get the GTS version of the plastic cover that goes on top of the gas tank.

Very very nice. Bet it's way more comfortable. Enjoy it. 8)

If they offered it in tan (which it doesn't seem they do) I'd order one right this second!

Hi Kristof,
I've thought about changing my stock GTS300 seat because I find myself sitting up against the ridge. I'm 1.8m tall so shift back to avoid back ache. I find the ridge uncomfortable and positions me higher which I dont like either.
Would you say the single seat portion of this seat is as long or longer than the stock seat? Lower, or the same height?
I wouldn't want to be restricted to sitting closer to the handle bars.

Browsing through the catalog I noticed the nifty lock that attaches between the body and the left bar end. I've been trying to get a Spanish version of it for ages (without success) so maybe this will open a new avenue of pursuit.

I've noticed those for years on photos of Euro scoots. I only ever found one website that sold them, ages ago, and they didn't ship to the US. Kinda gave up for a while. Looks like a pretty good visual deterrent to me, if nothing else.

Ooooh, I see there's some black accessories in there, too. Perhaps now all those folks who like to de-chrome their scoots won't have to go quite so far to do it. At least if they have an LX or an S. I also notice they finally gave the GT series a mid-sized screen.

If i measure from the seam to the front of the seat :

Gel mono = 58 cm (22,8 inch)
Original = 55 cm (21,6 inch)

Seat height from the lowest point of the saddle, Vespa on it's wheels :

Mono : 81 cm (31,8 inch)
Original : 79,5 cm (31,2 inch)

Max width :

Mono : 32 cm (12,6 inch) measured 39 cm (15,3 inch) from the front of the saddle.
Original : 30 cm (11,8 inch) measured 48 cm (18,8 inch) from the front of the saddle.

The edges also look more "rounded" than on the original.

Due to the awfull weather here, i've not been able to test it for comfort.

Kristof, thanks for taking the time to measure up. We've been having some of that bad weather over here also. Very depressing. Let us all know how you find it when you eventualy get out. I'm off to the NEC (National Exhibition Center) Bike Show (www.motorcyclelive.co.uk) on Tuesday. I'll be looking out for the Vespa stand and any accessories. Looking out for the 946 also

Looks great, but not so for the pillions bum. I really hadn't noticed the lines with that saddle and rear of the GTS. WOW, without the rack and topcase it's really first class! Raw liver red and dark brown! That would be stunning.

For anyone interested in the UK I now stock medical gel pads which can be retro fitted in the stock GTS seat but not really a diy fit tho

Probably why it's referred to as a "mono" or "single seater saddle"...

I called my dealer to check availability and they told me that it was a UK only part. Said I'd have to order from the UK and have it shipped. They said the same thing about the smoked shorty flyscreen for the GTS.

I purchased the Smoked Flyscreen on ebay.com for the GTS Super.
It is shorter then the regular Clear Fly Screen, but it looks Great.
It was here in about 2 weeks.
I think I paid $125.00 US Delivered.

Was it shipped from overseas? I did a cursory search and all of them seem to be out of the UK.

This may sound like a stupid question but it's important: Is it difficult to lift the scooter on its center stand if grab rail is removed? My scooter is at winter storage and I can't try to lift without grab rail at the moment.

Looks great without the grab rail. Now I'm about to order saddle but I only have center stand. And I don't want to install side stand.

From what the OP wrote earlier, there are cutouts for the grab rail, so you can leave it installed if you want.

I know. I just like more without grab rail. It was kind of cry for help when I was thinking why not to buy the saddle. So I just have to decide (later) with or without grab rail.

I did. What do you mean? I think it's relatively priced as it's original accessory from Piaggio. Then again I pay it with same currency as the italians (EUR euro).

My GTV seat measures just 18" from front to back piping so I can see one of these seats in my future...

I know there was a lot of interest in these. They've finally arrived here in the USA. Just thought I would give you guys a heads up. We've sent a couple out to rave reviews so far.

So to fit one of these on a GT I need to remove the rack and get a GTS gas tank top piece but where would some one get one of those?

Cool find. I was going to get a pad for my seat but this looks much better. Anyways can a I ride with a passenger with this seat given the shape of it?
