Ok, so on my first fill-up of the C650GT, I managed to spill gas on the fairing. (Note to C650GT/C600Sport owners - get that spout all the way in there before you start filling...)

So, I wiped it off with a paper towel and some water, but since this is my first new bike in a while, before I give her the first cleaning, I thought I'd ask around. What are people using to clean plastic fairing parts these days? Are any of the spray-on/no water required cleaners that I see on the shelf now good enough to avoid the need to wash and dry regularly with water and then wax separately?

Also, what do folks use to clean the black rubber on floorboards, etc., leaving them black but not slippery?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I've always used the McGuire family of products for cleaning and polishing plastics.

I saw your post a few days ago and thought that I'd get back when I got my cleaning supplied out. This guy had a GREAT looking, clean bike. About 6 or 7 posts down, he describes the products he uses and recommendations.

Best

only use a BMW cleaner on a BMW other than that you'll void the warranty. Laughing emoticon

Plexus can be used on just about any part of your bike and can be found in most motorcycle dealerships, but it seems to have gotten pricey lately.

cleaning plastic
I use Armor All. For plastic. "Cleans and Protects". It does. I use the wipes. Cost more, but can get into corners without getting on the paint.

Never, ever use paper towels on anything plastic. Regardless of how soft they feel to you they can scratch or haze plastics. This includes painted surfaces and also face shields, windshields, goggles, and glasses. Use a cheap cotton cloth, or best of all a microfiber cloth.

Thanks all!

What, if anything, are folks using on black rubber surfaces like floorboard covers to keep them clean and from cracking, etc., but not slippery?

Floor boards and assorted other rubber protective things in the place where you are intended to put your feet are there to protect something else, usually a painted surface. They are supposed to get dirty and scratched. If you just MUST keep them perfectly clean and scratch free a liberal application of cash is your only hope.
