No idea what the actual stall current of the starter motor is, but the usual relay used for Piaggio 500's (not the MP3) is rated at 90A. So lets double that as the optimal CCA available - yep, 180A.

Note that once the starter has actually started turning, the current draw drops right down, even under the heavy load of the high compression thumper engines. I doubt the actual cranking amps are much over 30A, and in a working engine it only has to turn twice to fire up - all over in less than a second.

edit - I need a new keyboard!

Well that does it then. Since I'm in no rush, I'll keep an eye out over the next several months for anybody running a particularly good sale on the 14AH 210 CCA (seeing as how 180 CCA doesn't seem to be an option, at least now right now, and 210 CCA is the next larger size) and make that my winter project.

No point in going through Amazon, really. Same price as buying them direct, and you may end up paying shipping as well. Motobattbatteries.com seems to be the best route. Straight from the company, and free shipping.
Bought mine through Amazon, as the manufacture is out of stock right now and I had it in my hands in two days via USPS from Ca. to Va. with FREE shipping.

Likewise, bought through Amazon. And what a difference when starting the LX on cold frosty mornings.
