Have what appears to be an engine from a large supplier in Vietnam.

Reed valve, Bajaj crank, Bajaj crank case.

Crank is shagged on both sides, and is in a V shape for the reed valve.

I have one for a rotary model, so inlet timing will be different. Any reason why I can't get away with the rotary Mazz crank?

Rode the Vespa before (and I use that term very loosely) and it seemed like overkill. No faster than a standard Sprint/GL etc.

Relevant thoughts appreciated!

A rotary valve crank will work fine in a reed case.
Is that what you're asking?

Yes.

Have been told not to do it.

I really don't have much choice.

Why do it if you don't have to? Just order a reed valve crank.

The original one is from a Vietnam based mailorder business. Wouldn't want one in there again, and not available anyway if I did want it.

I need to do it as this crank I bought was recommended by a large mailorder scooter business.

Not made of money mate.

A reed case (at least my LML one) is a little bigger inside. So the crank doesn't come as close to the inlet area as it does with rotary valve. There is also some space under the reed itself. So therefore the crank doesn't seal anything, and doesn't control the timing of the inlet... at least not to the same degree. In practice it works just fine. Chuck it in there, ride it, stop worrying.

Cheers for that!

Wouldn't worry otherwise but it's not my Vespa

It may have been bought from VN, but most likely made in India by either LML or Bajaj.

No cranks are being made in VN at the moment.

since I know from experience, make sure you know oil seal sizing if you plan on using Bajaj cases since they are just slightly different sizes.

Please tell me what BAJAJ motor used a reed valve? LML Star/Stella/Belladonna's are the motors that use reed valves as stock.

Further to this, the original flywheel is incorrect.

I have purchased the correct one.

Not the first time this business has done this.

Buyer beware when buying from Vietnam.

Yes.

No reply, was just after some specs on the parts used.
