I did a search on this but I didn't see anything. What I'd like to do is replace the 2 position light switch (always on and high beam) with a 3 position light switch (off with parking light, low beam and high beam).

Has anyone done this? Is this as simple as finding a 3 position switch in a county that has them and replacing or will I need to rewire too?

It's for a gts 250.

While I'm in no way qualified to figure out the details, I'd guess you probably would have to do some fancy wiring. All motorbikes in the US for the past few decades are required by law to have their headlights on any time the bike is running, so even the imported stuff (like a Vespa) is going to be wired up that way from the get-go.

I just wired a simple on/off switch into the live feed on my dip beam. Gives me the option of interrupting the automatic lights on when the key is inserted. Has been OK for the past 4 years.

Indeed - an extra switch is required as a minimum, the existing switch can't do the job because of the way it's internally wired.

I just bought this one to do the same thing on my Sportcity One.

http://www.scooter-center.com/scoweb/pages/productdetail.grid?product=288621638105632&target=productdetail&category1=A&category2=CAT

Dunno if it the shape is the same as for the GTS, but it clips straight in to my scoot, as well as the others listed, so quite possibly.
The switch is off/park/on.
