After changing my oil today I thought, out of curiosity, I'd check my coolant level, I noticed it was a little low, nothing in the reservoir as far as I could see and when I rocked the bike back and forth I didn't see any coolant splash up in the reservoir(?) so I topped it off with 50/50 mix of distilled water and pink stuff (Lifetime Antifreeze; Nitrite, Amine and phosphate free), it is Ethylene Glycol based coolant not the yellow stuff that was in the system from previous service. Should I be concerned, will I see my cooling system on the ground behind me as I'm driving away? I notice in the manual it does not recommend mixing coolants, should I have my system flushed ASAP?

Read the back label. As long as it says it works with Aluminum, you're fine.
Prestone 50/50 premixed is a good choice if you need some on hand. |

If its the Pink, or more commonly stated as Red, put in the Red. Do not Mix the two together because it has different properties. All Fluids Coolant, Brakes, Tilt-Lock, should be replaced every 2 years. DOT Fluids attract water... AF1 Racing stocks AGIP Blue and Red, so you can purchase either. After mixing, I had Motoretta Flush the System, and put in Pink... If you want to do this yourself, the Haynes Manual has a good explantion on how to do it. Not that difficult to do... I own multiple bikes, so I didn't want one with Blue, and the other with Pink... So I have both running the same Coolant. You will need 3 1L bottles for a Flush, and this will allow you some left over for topping off. I was also told by Piaggio the best thing to use to Top Off, if you don't have the correct Coolant, is to use Distilled Water. Why two different Colors... Bikes built before 2009 had Blue Coolant, after 2009 Piaggio changed to Red Coolant. I can't debate the difference, I just use what the Manufacture suggests. Keith, Marietta, GA |

I recently topped off with a coolant, 50/50 glycol and water, that was labeled as being compatible with any color. Before doing that, I read my owners manual, and all it said was to use a 50/50 mixture. It was the store brand at O'Riely Auto Parts. I hope that was OK. I hadn't given it a second thought until reading this Topic.
