Hi friends of old Vespa

I'm a proud owner of P200 E. Recently, my Vespa started to produce a strange "aluminium" noise, here is the video that I made for this opportunity:

At 1st this sound started to get out after machine got worm, but after a while, this sound is present from the second i fire up my vespa.

I already took Vespa to the local mechanic but did not find anything - not outside nor inside the engine. When I drove off, the noice was again present after around 10km of driving.

Otherwise there is nothing wrong with the machine, it runs smooth, only this noise is annoying. I also made already around 100+ km with vespa in this condition, so I guess it's nothing critical.

Any advice or suggestion is welcome.
Thank you

Sounds like the flywheel rubbing on the cover or the cylinder shroud is loose

yep. sometimes the cover is bent just enough that the fins from the flywheel graze it and make a scraping sound.

it's hard to tell from the video.

could be any number of things. does the noise go away when you squeeze the clutch?

So you've already eliminated a few things. Since its not in gear it has to do with either the flywheel rubbing elsewhere (more likely) or the piston (but i say that's unlikely but possible since it's running well).

Does the sound increase in frequency or pitch when you are driving it? Turn the fly wheel by hand and see where in the stroke it is happening. Maybe that could give a clue.

MY swag...

Something (stick, small pebble, dirt) at, behind or around the flywheel.
AIr intake at the carb?
Compression leak?
leak in the exhaust system?

I still think it's something rubbing

but I would check the torque on the flywheel (or completely remove it and look for scuffs)

also check the play on the crank itself -- see if you can wiggle the flywheel up and down or side to side (with the scooter NOT running) -- this would be an indication of a worn out bearing and you should fix it ASAP to prevent damage

could also be a head leaking or a loose spark plug...

REALLY hard to tell from a single youtube video

Take the flywheel cover off and start the engine. In fact, just start removing stuff until the problem goes away. Ha!

Crank rubbing on the case due to worn crank bearings?

Grab the flywheel and try to move it left, right, up, down, in, out to see if there's play. Oh, and sing the Hokey Pokey while doing it. Seems to make a difference.

You can also drain the oil and see if there is grit in there.

Hate to be a pessimist.
