You can't eat your cake and still have it. (my version) It depends on a definition of "have it". Once the cake is eatten it present in a stomach and intestines therefore, technically, a person still has it. Then, there are two possible nasty scenarios which I am not going to mention.

I wonder if the high price of the new Vespa will increase the value of our old ones. I kind of hope so.

From what I learned (from a very good source) They made 3000 units.
It's not an official limited production as the Vespa's are not numbered as: No. XXX out of YYY and my source said they might build more during 2014.
They are being assembled by hand and they have all the newest technology with things that don't exist on any other scooter model from any company in the world. (my personal believe is the technology will trickle down but that is not the point here)
The 946 is not a daily rider. never meant to be and don't try to compete in that market.
Piaggio is treating it as a "Super Scooter" in terms of Tech and design. (Not broot power) and marketing it as such.
They believe that like when people who buy "Super cars", they don't care for the price that much, this will also be the case with the 946 pricing.
The market they are aiming it will buy it if it will be 9K or 12K, while we all here complain about any thing that cost 1$ more then our last model.
BTW - Pricing where I am is expected to be around 60K nis. that is about 17K usd at the current exchange rate so all of you in north america - don't complain.

The 946 is definatly not you daily rider.
This off cource does not to say you don't deserve one.

Have fun No, not at all: it is windy, very cold, ice is everywhere. It 'll be worse tomorrow. It should be warmer next weekend, +9C/48F. Even so, it doesn't mean riding conditions. This week patches of ice are in every turn. 946 will be a garage queen for at least a week but more likely for the next 3-3.5months until snow is gone.

946 is too expensive. 10k isn't really worth early adoption to me. I believe Vespa was dumb to introduce this model. If their dealerships are closing all over the states, why don't they hire a better advertising or lower end model. If the dealerships are closing the 946 isn't going to save it. They aren't thinking about the long run in their company. We will find out in the next couple of years if the have a footing in the states. This is a car culture country (USA). I don't know what's the future of vespa. I hope it's the this 10 k direction. I'm just waiting what they introduce next.

Especially right now, when there is no other scooter (US) using that powertrain.

I don't know what's the future of vespa. I hope it's the this 10 k direction. I'm just waiting what they introduce next. Truly excellent Whinge. Do we get to vote for the best whinge? Of course to fully meet the definition, it needs to be persistent. Does repeating it in quotes, as I did above, give the author partial credit for persistence?
Here's my entry:
I don't like it, the price or the direction I claim Piaggio is going in by selling this scooter. Therefore no one else can like it, the price or Piaggio's direction. I hope no one buys it and if it's a commercial flop, I will sing with joy from the rooftops.

(unlike that silly 946 which does have a price of course. An astronomical one....one which surely NOBODY on planet earth should consider spending one one. Since it's "just" a 150 after all.....and it only comes in two colors. And the accessories, oh the accessories. They REALLY charge a lot for those. And it's still "only" a 150...)

Happy for you as well, but pleeeese, this is not a thread for praising the 946. In all honesty, you are way Off Topic. This is:
The "Whinging about the 946 price" thread
Look closely, gogogordy has the spirit. As always, it's good to emulate gordy!
Unless you have some serious whinging and reasons for wishing the demise of the 946 in particular and Piaggio in gerneral for creating it, could you simply start a new thread to express your feelings?
