I am wondering what people think of the MityVac.

What model have you used - they have several different ones?
Does it work well?
Does the MityVac 8000 suck as well as blow?

I notice the MityVac 8000 on Ebay for US$32.49.
Is that a good 'model' and price?

There are other similar brands on Ebay from the UK and Australia.
Would you recommend another brand?
I have read some bad reviews of the 8000.

Thanks

I bought one a few weeks ago and while it does what it advertised to do it does not work well on an MP3. I used it on the rear brake and it does suck fluid does not get all of the air out for some reason. I could only get the brake back to about 60% of where it should be. (however after using it for awhile it did come back close to normal)

I wouldn't recommend this model. And no it does not blow only sucks. jimc recommended that pushing the fluid up was the best way to do it so if you want to go this route get one that pushes too.

You could always do it the old fashioned way but it is hard to do alone.

I could not locate a Mityvac, so made my own device out of a syringe... it worked perfectly.

Air doesn't like going down in a liquid, you have to vacuum it from the top

Or push from the bottom, and this way you don't draw air in via the bleed nipple threads.

I think my Mityvac is the 8500, but it's not accessible right now to check.

Thank you everyone for your comments.
I will not now buy the model 8000 but look for a better solution. Actually, the idea of a simple syringe set-up suggested in one of the replies appeals to me.
Thanks.
