Hi,All:
Been doing some cool weather riding the last few days, temp. in the mid 40s. Got to get the Scooter broke in, and this is the only kind of wearher we have to do it in. I am up to 391miles as of today. It has got me interested in cool weather riding gear. I have been looking at the picture of the lap robe that Witch shows on a GTV300. I'm told it is an older model made by Vespa,
and has been discontinued. does anyone out there Have one that I could take a pattern of? Got the foging up of my helmet figured out and corrected.
Have been warm enough in my tourmaster jacket without heated vest. Been using an old pair of navy watch gloves, and that works.
Thanks.

Thermoscud is the most popular scooter apron but many folks swear by scooter skirts. I picked up on from Corrazzo from ebay in the spring. I haven't had a reason to use it yet in Houston but given its sheepskin like lining I expect it to be toasty warm when I do.

Google scooter skirt and you'll see several different ones that attach to you not the scooter. Thermoscud and you'll see one like Witch's.

Just for reference, here's a (rather crappy) picture of the lap apron Lowell was asking me about.

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

I love it because it's waterproof, and on longer rides, it holds in the air that spills out from the radiator vents. It also has a pull-out bit at the end of the bib part that completely covers the seat, if I have to park outside in bad weather.

And for those who don't know, no, lap aprons like this do not in any way prevent you from getting your feet down to the ground... unless you're trying to do a stoppie and put your feet down at the same time for some insane reason. Then you might have an issue. 8)

I'd start with gloves and a cold weather jacket, Kessler those bases are already covered. Warm legs won't mean diddly to you when your fingers are so cold, they feel like they're on fire...

I'm not saying that leather per se is warm, but with layering etc. I love the way a heavy leather jacket cuts through the wind.

Yeah, gloves would be at the very top of my list as well. For me, it's the first area I notice the cold.

I would also recommend some kind of scarf or cowl, depending on your jacket. For me, there's a little gap between my jackets and my helmet where my neck is exposed. Keeping that covered makes a noticeable difference in comfort. Full balaclava in the Winter months.

Get thee hence to a Cycle Gear store, if you have one, and have a look at their Freeze-Out jacket and pants. They are now on sale, too. 8)

It's one of the best purchases I made for cool weather riding.
