I want to remove the rear floor mounted brake pedal on my GS 160. How does the pin that goes through the shaft coming from the frame come out? Is it threaded through the shaft or just hammered in? I'm looking for advice before I start monkeying with it. I've ruined enough things during my lifetime, and have decided to try to not ruin things as often.

Facepalm emoticon

the post is welded to the frame channel. you need to remove the inner most floor rail. once that is out you can get the pedal down enough to touch the floor. then pull the pin up and out from the slot. you may have to lever it from the bottom. good luck.

Hi,
I too had reservations removing that pin. But, when it came time (rebuilding the 66 Sears B/B), mine came out rather easily. I was very surprised as, there were no signs this scoot had any previous refurbishing. Guess I got lucky!

Like jamesjohn says. That will definately work.

But if you don't want to remove the floor rail, you could also try removing the brake pedal rubber. Then press the pedal down into the rubber on the floor rail. If the floor rail rubber is soft enough you should be able to pull it out with some needle nose pliers.

At least that works for me..

As long as it's not rusted, the pin should pop up pretty easily.

My floor rail was already out when I did it, but you should be able to remove the pedal rubber as Magg suggests to get enough working room.

I''ll definitely try just taking the rubber strip and pedal rubber out before the aluminum rail. Thanks for all the help.

If it is a real problem, tap a tiny hole in it with a left-hand bit. Then knock in a bolt extractor bit. You should be able pull it out.

Thanks everyone for the help. It wasn't a big deal. After taking the rubber pad off the pedal it was enough clearance pushing down to get access to the head. It came right out with needlenose pliers. I removed the old pedal because the pivot hole was badly ovalized making it a sloppy situation. The new one (used but original in good condition) works much better now.

That's right. It's not even pressed in very tightly. It should just push right out.

It just sits there snuggly under the pedal. It can't come out once the cable tension pulls the pedal over the top of the head.

My new tool of choice..,needle nose surgical forceps. Reach at the pin diagonally to the axis of the attachment post. There's just enough space there for a good grab.
