We just got a 2009 sym rv250 and it has a moped plate meant for a 49cc. It has been on since new. Don't need a mc license to ride it I guess. It must not have the cc on the title?

If you ever get pulled over I would expect that you would get a hefty ticket for no registration and no m/c endorsement. Maybe that's why the previous owner sold it? Frankly, I wouldn't chance it especially since it could invalidate your insurance - you do have liability insurance I hope.

A guy a street over has a GT 200 with a Minnesota moped plate and rides it all over but this is Hawaii. I suspect you can't get away with that over in your neck of the woods. You could play dumb until they stop you but i suspect it won't take that long for a cop to pull you over. Good luck.

+1 As you transfer the title, now is your opportunity to fix things and make it all "correct". The last think you want is to have your beautiful day of riding spoiled because your vehicle is improperly registered. Go to the DMV and get it registered properly and then you can ride without worrying about it.

I had the same issue with LX150: damn MOPED tag. I don't know how they do it in Oregon, but here in Texas I just went to the place I buy my tags, and after a good half hour on the phone with different supervisors (the agent, not me!) I had a motorcycle tag. (Already had a MC license.) Somehow a moron with the State of Texas had titled it improperly. Now I ride with complete peace of mind.

I have two '05 Vespa GT200L scooters that are identical down to the accessories and the color. I bought them from different first owners from different parts of the state. They were originally sold by different dealers. On the titles, one is a Vespa and the other is a Piaggio. The State of California values them differently and my annual license fees differ. The DMV will not change them from what the original dealers "Sold".

Just curious, which one is more expensive, the Vespa or the Piaggio?

It may not have been the State's error, I know of at least one dealer in the state that has intentionally registered LX150s with moped plates for the original owners (not for me -I have always had full MC license and proper/robust insurance when considering Vespas)

Great! So one buys a Lexus and has it registered as a Toyota. Fortune saved.

Laughing emoticon And as far as getting pulled with the moped tag, they will probably tow the scoot. Add the fact that the tower is some yahoo who will probably damamge the machine. Take care of the tag.
