hi all,

first my problem - started my vespa et4 125 up in freezing conditions this morning absolutely fine, as always. went to give revs and the throttle wouldn't twist. with slight force it did twist but didn't return to normal position when released. i figured this was most likely due to the freezing conditions and so gave up and came to work resolving to have another look over the weekend.

having viewed some other threads it seems that it could be all manner of things but most likely will be some liquid in the cable that has frozen (i've never had any similar problems before). as an absolute novice i would like to try and resolve this myself rather than just calling the garage straight away. the only question i have, which i can't find answered anywhere, is how to access both ends of the throttle cable for me to able to assess what's going on at both the carb and throttle ends?

as an aside i would like to replace the whole cable at some point if it's going to start playing up - big job for a novice..........?

thanks for any assistance anyone can provide.

Was -6 here too last night!! I had the same problem last winter, first time it froze I tipped a cup of tea on the trottle, next time was at home so thawed it with a hairdryer. Sprayed some wd40 around cable and put a night cover over the bike for rest of the winter.

i poured a lot of water from the recently boiled kettle over the throttle this morning which made bugger all difference.

hoping that the mechanism has freed during the day and i'll be able to access one end of the cable to get some WD40 in over the weekend - i'm just not 100% sure how easy it is to access!!

**UPDATE **

well i stripped back the casing around the speedo and lamp this weekend to access the area where the throttle cable meets the throttle grip and got some WD40 down from that point. i also got under the seat to do similar to where the throttle cable is attached to the carb and this seems to have solved my problem.

unfortunately during the process i've discovered not only is my sidelight bulb blown but i only have main beam and no dipped light. off to the shop today to pick up and fit replacements - hope it's nothing more serious in the electrical department as i would then be shafted.......!!
