I've ordered a new 2013 Vespa 300 GTS Super and was wondering if it comes with a warranty. I can ask the dealer, but I thought the members would know. Thanks.

Here in Finland, 4 years for all Piaggio 2 wheelers over 50cc. All services have to be done by authorised dealers or workshops. Though I'm not going to find out how much it's going to cost for customer. Importer says it's factory warranty, but it's hard to believe.

I keep wondering why we get the shaft in the USA, having to suck up 1 year warranties on most PTWs when the rest of the world gets 2 or more on the same machine. I'm sure an additional year warranty could stir a little more interest and seriousness into using our bikes as "real" transport here in the USA.

If so, I don't have a problem with it, assuming that the charges are half-way reasonable. I got a good price on the bike, which the dealer delivered to me 25 miles/40km from his shop free of charge, and I'm sure that the dealer's profit on the sale was small. Plus the included roadside assistance has real value to me. If the dealer's service fees are reasonable (I'll know soon enough), I'm happy to support him. Delivery of the bike last weekend, dealer on the left and a friend on the right.

If US law prevents manufacturers/dealers from requiring that dealers do service work as a condition of the warranty, the way that the manufacturers price bikes, including warranty, may have to be different. I don't know what US law says on this subject, just raising the question. The only thing that I'm pretty sure about is that the Italian dealer who just sold me a Piaggio Liberty didn't make much money on the sale of the bike and that he hopes to make money from maintaining my bike. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe there is a bigger dealer profit on the sale of a Piaggio Liberty 125, at a Piaggio promotional price of EUR2070 including VAT, windshield and top box, than I think. |
