Named after the nuclear powered icebreaking ship built to traverse the wintry wasteland of Arctic seas, the Ural Yamal Limited Edition Sidecar Motorcycle ($14,250) might not break apart ice, but it will certainly draw attention. Powered by a boxer engine with Brembo brakes for equal stopping power, this unique ride comes in powder coated flat orange with black accents and features additional lighting, a knobby spare tire, hand guards, an ore - no joke - and menacing teeth graphics. Only 50 available stateside, so get your order in now.

I'm guessing it doesn't include mining samples (ore) but rather a paddle (oar) - but I could be wrong since I can't find either in the picture

Yes, it includes a paddle (doen't ask me why - though IMZ seems to know). Ural has been producing special editions for several years. Don't know that it really adds anything to the bike, but it allows them to charge a bit more . This one has a hilarious set of instructions that prove Russians have a sense of humor.

In Case of Emergency:
If you are reading this then you wandered out too far, and the ice didn't hold - we're very sorry. In an effort to make it back alive, you may want to follow these survival tips:

Abandon all hope - it will help you focus
Detach sidecar, jump in and then paddle like heck
Rescue your dog - they're better at finding their way home than you are
Should you find yourself sinking, use your seat cushion as a flotation device

Disclaimer:
Ural cannot be held responsible for global warning
Water damage not covered under warranty
This vehicle is not a boat, nor is the paddle or any part of the motorcycle intended to be used as a flotation device
Survival may depend on other factors. Your wife was right, who goes fishing in winter?

Not a Yamal, but an equally outrageous paint job. One of my scooter club buddies just acquired this Ural several says ago, and we surprised our fellow club members at our Wednesday coffee meeting.

I have been drooling over this for a few days now - I have permission from my wife, but really have no more room to store another 2 (or three) wheeler. what to do?

There used to be a Ural w/sidecar that parked around the East Village. My husband saw it and fell in love. He insists that we get one so that we can take our Siberian Husky with us in the sidecar, which would actually be pretty damn cute!

That's the deluxe model with, in addition to the oars has fog lights, a spare and the sidecar wheel is driven by the motor and has brakes. The basic model is a real bargain at under $10K.

I had a Ural Retro a few years ago - it was a 2004 with 200 miles on it. The quality of that one was not great which is why I have not ordered one right away. I would like to see if they have improved things since the '04s.

So far no complaints on the quality of my 2012 Ural Gear-Up. Something I really like is the very complete owner's manual that is written in real American style English.

I like the machine mount on the Gear-Up pictured above. I didn't get one of those. They ran out of original factory stock when they used the last of them to make the 2012 M72 model.

I've never heard of this brand of PTW and love the look. I was curious about quality too, so I found this forum. Not a very complimentary post:

I love the Ural sidecar rigs! I see this one on a regular basis. It features two wheel drive (rear wheel & sidecar wheel), a turret mounted machine gun operated from the sidecar and a Model 94 30/30 carbine rifle in the scabbard on the front left.

Many, many upgrades and modifcations to the Ural from 2004 to 2012.

The best web site I've found for the Ural is:

http://www.sovietsteeds.com/forums/

I knew of all the likely problems before I purchased mine. Most of them are in the "They all do that." catagory and are easily fixed.

Love that Arizona rig pictured above. In Arizona you can probably mount a real machine gun on the sidecar.

Could it be that the sidecar is designed to detach and become a canoe type boat? That's the only way the oar makes any sense to me.
