well...

i ride my vespa GTS 125 ie since 2009.

a good friend of me bought the vespa because i was looking to buy one, i infected him with the vespa virus.

his adventure came to a abrupt stop because he has a allergie for pollen.

i was still looking to buy one and the day i said to myself ""now i'm getting a black GTS(like my friend)!!"" and i called him to say that i was getting to my car to ride to the dealer and order one.

a few moment later he called me, are you at the dealer ?
and i said : no, almost... why ?
he :come over to my place and let's talk...

long story short, i left his house with a black GTS 125 IE with 850km on the odometer for a nice price.

this is a short writeup from the past 3 years :

then the madnes began, i loved riding it so much, the ride itself, the attention, the looks and so on, i started riding more and more(note i already had allot of experience on 2 wheels), i started to customize but my tye of customization is always subtle but i have some ideas that are maybe a bit daring but we'll see...

my customiation in the beginning was a GPR exhaust, i rode it for half i year and took it of, it was to noisy at higher speeds, i liked the sound but not for 3h in a row.

i traded the GPR for a malossi variator and it was good, not super but good...

a few thousand km further i started looking for more types of variators because i have some experiance already from my other scooters(50/70/125cc) i had in the past.

i knew a polini would be better in terms of revs and that is what the little 125 engine needs.

i loved it but again on long straight roads the polini was a bit to nervous on the throttle, or you where accelerating or you where engine braking, nothing in between, or so it seemed...

i saw allot of people here using the Dr Pulley's so i took the plunge and put in the stock variator with the sliders, it blew my mind !!
i had all the advantages of te sports variators AND from the stock variator without any downsides !!
+ for a fraction of the price of a sports variator !!

(you can find a short writeup and explanation somewhere on this forum about the tests i did with the variators)

the other mod i'm very happy with is the front shock from "malossi", very nice piece of suspension !!

in the meanwhile i did some little mods, Mike's airbox mod for example.
yes it works, especially with a sportsvariator and i'm also convinced with other types of engine tuning but i'll come back to this later...
the springs in the clutch are the red ones from malossi...

i also changed the light bulbs in the tail lights for LED's, i installed a voltage meter, a 12V socket for my iphone and a cradle for the iphone to use my tomtom gps and i also installed heated grips for winter riding !

then i have 2 screens, a winter screen(medium heigth from the 200GTS) and a small clear screen for the summer when it's 30+° celcius.

i also have a 'classic racks' bend rack on the rear of the GTS,

my new plans are already ordered and it's a Akrapovic 'black edition' and a "rapid bike easy" module to give some more juice to compensate for the open airbox and open pipe !

someday i hope to put in a malossi 209cc setup with V4 head and i want to do something with the color sheme on the GTS...

here you can see one of the first photo's i made back in '09 :

tnx, but the 'after' photo's are not spectacular, you can barely see the mods i did.

malossi shock, urethane bushes in the back suspension, 12V connector, heated grips, voltage meter, LED's in taillight, Dr Pulley sliders and a classic racks rear rack and 2 windscreens, that's it

i also have no photo's of myself on the GTS, i mostly do my photoshoots self so i'm the cameraman

the foto of the front spring is a iphone photo.

Good
I'm not fan of the photo shooting, I have simple D90 with new lenze 90-200 2.8 with some automatic controls and so.. and also extra flash light.. But funny pictures always on Iphone.. something like this

the D90 is a nice camera, if you practice using it and the manual controls you can get the greatest photo's with very nice effects ! 8)

i once also got a encounter with a wasp(a real wasp) against my sunglasses at 70kmh, the little bugger managed to hit the edge of my glasses and sting me right beneat the eye... that hurt... allot...

so, i wanted to test the rapid bike on the stock engine(stock ?) with the stock exhaust but somebody stated in a other thread that the cat converter could melt.

i know some stuff about engine tuning 2 and 4 stroke but it's al a long time ago for me, so i did some researsch and as far as the cat gets the right AFR within it's limits it would be good(recognisable from the bad fuel smell when the engine is warm, that's when you have gone to far),

the meaning of this box is to ad some more fuel, it costs twice as much as a malossi O2 modulator but this one is adjustable and the malossi not.

sidenote : i tried the malossi 02 on my bike and it did'nt work out with the stock exhaust setup, that's why i bought the rapid bike.

my 'stock' engine has a few little mods nd they are as following :

-mike's airbox mod(so i get a little more air and faster throttle respons)
-iridium spark plug
-6,5gr Dr Pulley sliders
-red malossi clutch springs
-malossi airfilter

the next step is the akrapovic...

anyway, the mounting of the rapid bike was easy(everybody with a bit of mechanical skills can hook it up) and fast like the malossi, in about a little less then 10min it's al hooked up and secured.

according to the manual it was recomended to set the setup potentiometer to "6" and then ad fuel as you like with the other pot meter.
you can choose between -3, -2, -1, 0 and up to +3 fuel...

i firstly set the pot meter to "6" and the fuel pot meter to "0" to see what it would bring.

well the engine was ice cold and when i started her she started normal ! :-O

why do i act all happy about it, well everybody that owns or have ridden a 125 IE engine know that on a cold engine it struggles to iddle the first 20 seconds and then it will take another kilometer at least to make the engine respond good at the throttle.
it's a very known fact that these engines do this.

well, now the 'strugle' is almost gone and i can take of from 0 meters without the engine reacting badly on the throttle.

Score :
rapid bike easy : 1

then the driving experience :

-take off :
1 word : WOW !
the engine has way more torque even with the fuel at "0", the mapping that i set to "6" is really great, the engine has more respons, does react way more on the throttle etc.
i can litterally feel the clutch grab on harder at launching(<- yes it launches now) and shoots me away in a manner that i have the feeling the bike wan'ts to wheely (!!)

then driving :
i feel more torque and i can see the needle going faster but not dramatically.

then i set the fuel pot to +1 :

Now it really flies, even more torque and it feels definatly faster.
i tested on a road i come by every day and i know i can get from one fixed point to another from 40 to 75kmh on the speedometer, now i was a bit past 80kmh(!).
i did not believe it so i turned back and did it again and even with a lower starting speed i could get 80 on the clock what i normally never ever manage to do.

i did not expected this but it's a nice bonus.

score rapid bike easy : 2

i gonna try this for a few days and then alter the settings to see if i can get more out of it and then again with the akra if it arrives.

only downside is that it started to rain and according to the weather forecast it wil not stop and it also will start to freeze after a couple of days so i think i'm done riding for the next week

ps : i also went to the carwash to hose some mud frome my wheels and when i took of at the carwash on the wet concrete the rear drifted away a bit, this something she never has done before w/o the rapid bike

Maybe it's time to tune my GTS a bit as well.
After 2 years I feel the urge to go a bit faster as well...

Keep on testing!

today it was'nt freezing or raining hard(like yesterday) so i used the vespa to get around.

i'm still baffled by the torque, it really is quicker, i can feel it in my wrists everytime i accelerate from low speeds.
i need to hold on now

every movement of my right hand translates in a inmediat speedgain, reaching top speed is even easyer now.

these where my tests with the pot meters on "6" and "1".

halfway my trip(about 50km) i stopped and tried to set the mapping setting from "6" to "7".
the first acceleration was good/impressive and then the engine checklight came on and the engine started losing power.

i set it back, started her again and of i went, this setting needs to be on "6" !
to confirm i set it again to "7" and again engine light and loss of power.

then i tried to set the fuel gain from "1" to "2", this felt more torqie-er during take off but less over the whole range and top speed was hard to get, almost exactly as the test with the malossi lambda O2 emulator...

i set it back to "1" and the engine ran fine again, you can even hear the difference in tone from the engine, with the setting on "1" it runs very sweet, even better then w/o the rapid bike(!).

gas mileage seems to be about the same, despite i did allot of WOT runs it seems to me my milage is almost uncompromised but i have to admit i only rode for 100km with the rapid bike so i need to get another 100 to be sure...

Now you project become interesting

I am very pleased..

I also like the sound of the engine.. and my mechanic told me that 6.2 is the best.. but as you said the top speed are not good enough.. I'm not sure, but I think after that I get 6.3 and I like the fire shooting on exhaust after full throttle then close.. like in sportbike 8) so try with akra.. but the fuel will go faster for sure..

I don't see yet BLACK Akra, is that this?

If YES, Man I love it. How much you spend on it?
And gow much you pay for Rapid bike? Coz i Get for 190 for RapidBike and 420 for Arka

yes that is the black akra, available since beginning of last december...

i do not know how much i have to pay, i ordered it at my dealer and to be honest i don't care, if it costs 600EUR i pay 600EUR just because i really want that exhaust in that color !!

the rapid bike was another story, it was'nt available here in belgium so i had to order it in italia and the shipping was expensive, i payed 225EUR in total, but again i do not care because it gives more power like i expected and then i do not care what it costs 8)

Just be sure the setting is not to lean or it will be BOOM instead of WOW.
that is totally no problem, the engines are running lean stock, i have a pot meter for mapping(throttle respons) and the other is for setting the fuel mixture more lean or rich.

the last one is set to "+1" so i give more fuel and there is where the torque is coming from, this is also a known fact, i did some engine tuning a decade ago by subaru's etc, i even raced and tuned cars as a hobby so i know pretty good what i'm doing... i hope... LOL

yes, true but the akra is a exhaust i always liked in terms of style and sound(yes the remus is almost the same in terms of design and sound i know) but when i saw the black akra i just had to have it, you know that little boys voice in your head going "c-c-c-cooooolllll, must... have... ...now !! !!!"

ps like i said in my previous post to the crazy russian, i don't care how much it cost, i just want it... bad...

yes that is the black akra, available since beginning of last december...

i do not know how much i have to pay, i ordered it at my dealer and to be honest i don't care, if it costs 600EUR i pay 600EUR just because i really want that exhaust in that color !!

the rapid bike was another story, it was'nt available here in belgium so i had to order it in italia and the shipping was expensive, i payed 225EUR in total, but again i do not care because it gives more power like i expected and then i do not care what it costs 8)
Yeap!! No I also don't really care about it cheap or expensive.. it's just because I want this.. It's higher price or the same? ))

Probably I will put my Akra for sale.. or Paint HA ha )))) just joke..
Progetto 300 :
Akrapovic is the best you can get for bolt on.. Remus is in the past.. and if you see that the MotoGP and high tune cars come with Arka .. so it's nothing with price.. just to get BEST of the Best

with cat converter is homologated, but that depends on your country/police how this is taken, i bought mine w/o converter because "they" do not check it.

i ordered mine at my local dealer Bstreetzone in 'zammel' but he also had none in stock, he had to order it also...
