Bribery is a perfectly acceptable basis for inclusion. I will pledge that I will name my next son "Jess" if I am placed on the standards committee. Also my next daughter. Also my next dog (only the labs).

I submit to the MV standards committee the following proposed unit of measure:

Heinlein Humidity Adjusted Apparent Temperature (°Hₕ)

This derived unit applies the Apparent Temperature or "feels like" scale developed by Robert Steadman to the Heinlein scale to account for the effects of humidity on the perceived temperature.

There is a story in my family concerning the naming of my older brother and $50. All involved have passed, so I will not speak ill of the dead, except to say the funds were accepted and naming rights secured.

I suspect the spreadsheet he's using applies the sign before rounding, rather than after.

quirk of the spreadsheet. the calculated values are rounded for display and it seems to keep the minus for values that are negative but round to zero

-0.5 < "-0" < 0

considered fixing it but that would impact the color formatting so I left it.

I've looked at the spreadsheet as well. Definitely the fault of the app, not Patrick's formula. There's a very cumbersome way around it, but it's probably not worth fixing.

I used to live at about 7,900 - 8,000 feet (circa 2,400 meters) in the Rockies and water boiled at 198F (about 92C). Our electric kettle would never shut off. Pretty perfect temperature for black tea though, just had to keep an eye on the kettle or it would boil itself dry. We eventually replaced it with one with different temperature settings.

The lower boiling point screwed with all sorts recipes. We always had a laugh at the "high altitude instructions" on cake mixes, which were for 3,000 or 3,500 feet. "If that's considered high altitude, then where are we?", we'd say. Everything took longer to cook.

Funny thing: the reason airplane food tastes bland, is because your sense of taste is suppressed at high altitude. Airliners have the cabin pressure set to around 6,000 - 8,000 feet. So basically we were at cabin pressure (or lower pressure) 24 hours a day. I ate more salt and hot sauce while living there than I ever did, in all my other years combined!

Looking at most of your -8ºH readings I thought I was about there too. However, it was 18ºC in Porto yesterday with 90% humidity and I was far far too hot!

Now you just have to figure in how to include wind chill.

The Apparent Temperature model created by Steadman has versions that include wind chill (for outside in the shade) and sunlight (for outside not in the shade).

Applying wind chill in shade vs sunlight is complicated. But the concept of "even" as it applies to Heinlein temperatures is pretty straightforward. It's just the center of the comfort point -- not warm, not cold, but even.

OK, but what mpg is imbedded in you? Miles per US-gallon or per Imperial gallon?

Living in Belgium metric is perfectly logical and natural.
But some non-metric things survived in every day life.

Rims for instance. They are still in inch.
For wheels the rim is in inch but the tyre is metric.
Front wheel on my BV: 110/70 - 16"

16 inch rim
110mm wide tyre with height 70% of 110mm = 77mm

In plumbing there it is also still in inch. Or in "duim" as we say in Dutch which means "thumb".

I guess it is as with HP, horse power, long ago replaced by kW. But still people keep using HP.

This mix is also there in electric vehicles:

What is the size of your battery? 65kWh. It is in kWh. That is common, nobody will ever use HPh.
What power does the engine have? 313HP.

Imperial MPG - being a former British colony left its mark in many ways, imperial measurements being one of them. NZ went metric on 14 December 1976.

In 1976? That is 48 years ago. And you still have Imperial mpg in your head?

Time to make the switch I would say.
What is most common in use in NZ? liter/100km or km/liter?
