Rain, wind and hail off and on again today, so some long awaited work in the garage got done. New front tire, new front shock, replaced a missing front fender bolt, and changed out the horn. Then mixed up a batch of fresh salsa for tacos tonight. All in all a pretty good day.

It was time for me to switch video streaming services (I only do 1-2 at a time), so I picked HBO to see this "Our Flag Means Death" I keep hearing marvelous things about.
Not only does it exceed expectations, but I found several movies that were on my "must catch up on" list, including Godzilla vs Kong, the latest Matrix, and a Riddick movie I didn't even know I missed. |

I was back in the saddle again yesterday after my 7 days isolation from Covid.
For two days I was man-down, mentally and physically exhausted. I slept 22/24! From day 3 I felt an improvement and felt like just 'flu or a bad cold. By day 5 I was getting in my wife's hair as usual. She got it too. But I'm back and we had a great day at the Italian Club national day celebrations... ![]()

It was yesterday. My Vespa guru buddy and I went to a HOG get together by invitation of a Vespisti who is also a HOG member.
When we arrived, every model and manner of H-D was in gleaming attendance, with riders proudly strutting about in their regalia. We innocuously rode quietly past the premier personifications of American Iron and found a spot off to the side to park our GTS machines. Standing by our Vespas, we hadn't even removed our helmets when two VERY hot young ladies in H-D gear came RUNNING up to us. They greeted us with broad smiles on their faces and a faraway dreamy look in their eyes. "These are the COOLEST bikes here today... by far!" they said. Two overweight old farts over 50 on Vespas drew the attention of the prime of H-D pillions in an instant. Sorry HOGs... VESPAS RULE !

Bob Copeland I have actually seen similar reactions from attendees at some bike shows, all kinds of Harleys and other bike and who get stuck having to chat with people? My wife with the GTV300. And they almost seem to ignore my Sportster with the sidecar sitting next to it! ![]() |

A few weeks ago, I found out the reason one of the head gaskets had given way in our 2005 Subaru Outback - a head bolt thread in the aluminum block had stripped. OK, that pissed me off, but what's cheering me up no end is that I managed to repair it with a Time-Sert. The kit costs $530, but I found the one place in the US that offers a 30-day hire for $129, postage included. Engine (and therefore old car) hopefully saved from the scrapyard - I've yet to button up the engine and re-install it, so fingers still crossed. The scary bit is done though!

In the bottom shelf of my cupboard is a little bag containing the saddest group ever...
The Single Sock Society. Yesterday I found another few lost single socks that my wife had put away. With care, I managed to reunite three pairs ! (Cue music: "Oh Happy Day..." ) I also darned another two to give them an extension of life. When I was in basic training in the Navy in the early 70's, I was the only one in the bungalow who could actually sew. I never had to polish boots... I kept myself busy by going on to make two pots of soup for the family. A hearty Scotch Broth (my favourite) and my daughter's favourite - Potato, leek and celery. Simple pleasures. ![]()

Yet another reason I love my job:
Last night my wife and I went to pick out new glasses. I selected a frame, then went with progressive lenses & the usual coatings. I skipped the transitional lenses this time, because it's just not worth it to me. The total came to $295. I paid then my wife did hers. Another staff member and I were talking, and I mentioned I worked for the local school district. She said that usually the school district employees insurance covers most or all of the costs. So we checked. I was covered by insurance. So we canceled the previous order and re-entered it under insurance. I only had to pay a $5 co-pay. |
