Booked a brewery tour and a couple nice dinner spots (Terasa U Prince, rooftop terrace overlooking the old square and astronomical clock; La Degustation--1 Tire Star tasting menu with wine pairing) for our trip to Prague in a couple months.

Went to make some raspberry lemonade to bring to work today. A couple hiccups were noted along the way, not the least of which was lack of a pitcher in which to make it (i believe we got rid of our pitchers several years ago and just never got around to replacing as we hadn't been using them) nor a proper sealable vessel in which to bring it to the ol' grind.
A giant mixing bowl and some mason jars later, I now have my coworkers convinced I'm bringing moonshine in. Additionally, when the missus came in the kitchen and inquired as to the nature of my labors, i maintained a straight face and said "making a big bowl of lemonade, want some?" |

I found my favorite screwdriver! This is cheering me up today.
Many of us probably have a "favorite" screwdriver. It's the one we grab first because it's size seems to work well in >80% of cases. Well, a couple weeks ago I misplaced mine. This is unusual for me because I'm kind of OCD about my work area and tend to keep tools organized even as I'm using them. I've felt a loss every time I've looked at the empty spot in my screwdriver drawer. Yesterday, I was sorting through a bin filled with zip ties and zip tie anchors and POOF! There it was. My lost friend, my flat blade amigo, my missing screwdriver! I must have set it down with the intent of coming back for it and forgot. It felt good to put it back in it's place in the tool chest drawer. All is right in my world once again.

Went to the store to buy some paint that was listed as AU$22 on their website. The label on the shelf in the store said $17. Took it to the counter and it scanned as $22. Told the cashier about the price on the shelf. Got it for $17 😝

Had one of those moments on Sunday. Had to replace my beard trimmer - after about 20 years. Website said $98 for the desired model. Shelf price said $114!!! Asked about it and was told web price was correct. What about being old? Take off $13. $85 bought exactly what I was after.

I had a project that was outside of my usual architectural practice of residential projects that was causing me some concern, mostly because I also have numerous residential projects in need of completion.
And I am leaving for a three week vacation in less than two weeks. I offered the building owner that I could pass the work on to a friend who could complete the documents faster than I could. Today it all fell into place and he is taking over. Now I can work on the other projects. Bill

Maybe a tad premature, but after failing to sell my office building 2 years ago, I finally have an offer! A few hoops to jump through before figuratively cracking out the champagne, but looks promising.
That, and the package that seems to have been stuck in customs for a couple of weeks just *might* arrive tomorrow. So, other than outright cheer, I'm feeling pretty optimistic.

I replaced the door seal on the washing machine. Cheapest quote we found was $425 parts and labour included.
Bought the new seal for $60, bought the tool needed for $20. Took me 2-3 hours including time to watch a youtube video, gather and put away tools, clean up, and clear out a blocked drain hose that wasn't part of the quote. Saved $345 for max 3 hours of fairly easy straight forward work, and I got an excuse to buy a new tool. Double win.

Stopped at the NEX (Navy Exchange--the "mall" on base for shopping) and they not only had a single-barrel Woodford Reserve Double-Oaked pick, but also Russell's Reserve single barrel at about half the going rate outside in the wild.
So i'll be making a few friends happy too despite the crap news from the rest of the day. |

Either way. Now I have the tool for the job. And I can also replace washing machine door seals with it too.

So a couple months ago my coworker went off on me because he thought that I had overstepped my responsibilities. He refused to allow me to defend myself, or even get clarification from him as to what he thought I had done.
So I stopped talking to him unless it was absolutely necessary. I figured I'd do my job, let him know about anything he needed to know about, and move on. But it kept digging at me. So today I finally got up the nerve to talk with him about it. He'd completely forgotten about the incident and moved on with his life. I still cleared the air as to what happened, so that he understood that I hadn't overstepped, and everything is now back to normal. One less thing to dwell on as I try to fall asleep.

I saw my knee surgeon about 4 weeks ago and he gave me the green light to go as hard as I want on my knee. The only restriction he specified is no skiing until January 2024. He also recommend I wear a brace for any "risky" activities. So they measured me for a brace during my visit and today it was fitted. It's a lot less bulky and lighter weight than the brace I have for my right knee (injured in 1992). I've had that brace for 30 years so no surprise technology has improved.
Continuing progress on my rehab is cheering me up today. New brace, left knee
Old brace, right knee

I picked my husband up from the airport last night. He spent the first few weeks of August with his family in Texas for his mom's 80th birthday celebration. His return was a great gift for our 36th anniversary, also yesterday!
Today is the 6th anniversary of the purchase of my Moto Guzzi, Anni. My husband and I on a scooter ride.
Just after Anni was delivered on September 23, 2017.

This email from HR:
Quote: In June, the School District Board of Trustees approved a 2% raise for exempt campus and central team members; a 3% raise for support staff; increases in select tiers for the teacher, assistant principal and principal excellence initiatives; and an increase to $16 an hour for the district's minimum wage. These increases amount to $47.4 million in the 2023-2024 budget and focus on the district's compensation priorities: market competitive salaries, advancing equity, strategic compensation and high priority and retention stipends. These salary increases will be reflected on Sept. 15 paychecks for eligible bi-weekly and monthly team members who are not in an excellence initiative, and on the Oct. 13 paycheck for eligible team members who are on an excellence initiative. Eligible team members who were hired before May 1, 2023, will also see an additional $500—the first installment of a district retention incentive—in their Sept. 15 paychecks. |

Seemed like I was the only one trying to help the guy, still got kicked out I already sent him a DM letting him know how to visually and nasally (smell-ily?) tell gas leak from coolant leak from oil leak apart.
