My wife and I are open to getting an EV as a second vehicle for her to commute in. We still have range anxiety about them. Her MIL lives 285 miles from us. Most of the EVs we'd consider could do that trip on one full charge. But my family lives about 1,000 miles away. I prefer to drive when visiting them due to a variety of reasons, and a trip that long in an EV would be much longer, time-wise, than in an ICE vehicle, hence the reasoning behind having the EV be a second vehicle. I'm sure that in time, range, charge speeds, and infrastructure will improve, and my concerns will be a non-issue.
This will actually be a third car for us. I'm not convinced yet of an EV as an only car. That is why I'm leasing this one for 2 years. I already have a good car for road trips with no range anxiety.

I'll see where we are in 2 years.

The weather here is exceptionally nice for being almost mid December. We could easily be experiencing Sub-Zero(F) temperatures and snow up to our ying-yangs, but it's currently in the 40's for daytime highs, and will be in the low 50's starting on Friday, then upper 50's to possibly 60 by next Wednesday, with little chance of measurable precipitation.

This situation has fired up enough ambition in me to get those GTS 300 valves FINALLY checked and adjusted so I can give my Triumph a break and get back to enjoying the Vespa...while I can.

Was playing around in Excel this morning, and had a column which contained a list of Cities & Countries. I decided to add a column, with just the Country. I know I could have done Text to Columns, but some entries had two commas (City, State, Country), while others had only one (City, State). Since the sheet only had 39 rows, I figured I'd type them. So I typed the first country, then as I typed the second country, I noticed that the rest of the column had auto-populated with the countries from the other cells. I simply hit the Tab key, and all of the country names were filled in.

Excel has gotten pretty smart.

Similar forecast for us here, Friday looking especially nice so I've utilized my other "comp day" (we get two each month as a result of giving up a weekend for drill) to sleep in a little, have some eggs and a celsius with the cat (he has kibble), and then maybe get a few miles on the odometer so I can get this thing closer to first major service before next season.

side note the missus signed up for BRC2 at a local community college (using her vespa as she has ZERO interest in ever riding anything with a shifted gearbox) in the spring, so she won't be ridin dirty too much longer.

We are having record breaking weather in W Michigan, too.
The Stella started up this morning, but reluctantly. I opted to drive to avoid the whole "stalling at corners" scenario. To be fair, it was about 24ºF.

Tomorrow is looking like near 50º. I had some vacation time to burn, so I have Friday and Monday off this weekend.

Perhaps a ride is in order.

You're not sober. It's a new pattern. Just trying out some alternative patterns. These won't go into the regular rotation (they're far too large) but I thought we could have some variety in December when things are otherwise fairly slow.

I had to look up that phrase, as it's a Britishism (that apparently is also popular in Australia?) that I was unfamiliar with.

Got first three rows and skip-the-line for I Musici Veneziani when we're there in Feb for Carnevale.

For the unfamiliar, a string ensemble plays the entirety of Vivaldi's Four Seasons in period costume in an enormous ballroom Vivaldi was likely to have played in himself during his tenure.

We've done it once before but this trip is with friends so we're taking them too.

Well, it's December the 18th in western South Dakota, it's sunny, no snow or ice, with a predicted high temp today of 55 (F).

I have nothing to do today except maybe a little creative and fun artwork, a couple of hours of guitar practice on my 12 string this morning, and then a 70 mile round trip ride up to Deadwood on my Triumph for an unseasonably pleasant and very welcome coffee and scone visit spent on the outdoor deck of the Pump House Deli and Hot Glass Studio.

Well, let's see.... what's cheering me up today?

How's this?¹

Sunny, dry, weather with temps up to 60 (F).

Busted out my Triumph, geared up, and took off down the interstate 25 miles up to Sturgis, then left on Boulder Canyon road another ten miles to Deadwood and parked at the Pump House Deli for an hour chatting up the other bums who congregate there around noon almost every day.

Had a toasted plain bagel smothered with strawberry cream cheese, and a fairly strong black coffee as a culinary counterweight.

Afterward, I decide to take 'the long way home' from Deadwood, which is a fifty mile run through the Black Hills on hwy 385, then Nemo Road, a curvy, hilly, tree lined blacktop that winds through the Black Hills between Rapid City and Deadwood. Nemo Road is a wonderful motorcycle (and scooter) route through the area.

#1 Coffee Shop Bums' can be seen on the left in the first image.

#2 'Glamour shot' selfie taken on the return ride down Nemo Road.

#3 Toasted plain bagel with strawberry cream cheese...and coffee, of course.

My wife had a job interview with the City of Dallas on Monday, and she said it went well. She was told they'd let her know the next step by the end of the week.

She's still waiting to hear back from the school district about the interview she had with them in November. We're not too concerned about the long delay with this one because the district moves really slowly when hiring. And the job is still posted. And my director was telling me that she had been told that there's a hiring freeze, and only positions that have already been interviewed for can be hired. My wife was interviewed the day after I learned about the freeze, so we don't know if it was affected by that freeze or not.

They look like cheap plastic recorders each attached to a bellows which, as it is compressed, blows air through the recorders.

The recorders are each tuned to a different note by covering the respective holes with some kind of black material.

Funky and clever.

Ok, so I'm breaking format here. This cheers me a lot, but it is ALSO scooter related.

Shopping around online for scooters, mainly just watching prices, I came across a listing that seemed to be one of those "too good to be true" deals. It's a 2009 GTS250 for under $4k. With well under 1K miles.

Normally I'd be all like "Yeah, yeah.", but then I looked at the owner. He lives in the same small town I grew up in. He knows my parents. He runs a very respected local mechanic shop that he took over from his Dad. He's a real straight arrow guy, and he bought the Vespa new to carry with them in their motor home.

I know it's not run much, but I'm sure it's always been in a heated garage. I sent him a message just to say, "Hey, remember me? Not in the market, but that's a great bike." He responded back saying he's pulling the listing soon because they'll be gone for the winter and check back with him in the spring.

For me it would be a perfect bike. In the meantime It'll give me a chance to get ready to sell both my other bikes in the spring. They'll likely pay for this one. I can also throw out feelers to all you better educated folks for what to look for.

I know it's busy season, but I have some free time next week. I might see if he'll let me come look at it. He's about half an hour away. Who knows; maybe he'll cut me a "family friend" deal.

It put a smile on my face thinking about it, anyway.
