ok so i did a new rear tire on a BV 350 today for somebody. That led to thinking about adding a highway peg like what Rjeffb came up with for the MP3 riders. It really looks doable for sure.
From my initial investigation of how to mount it it should be as easy as what we do on the MP3's.
Now whats the consensus of you riders that would consider these.
I will have to come up with a cad drawing and talk to a machine shop for pricing and all that jazz.

Just would like to know if its worth my time to proceed with this crazy idea.

I have gotten used to the seat ridge - in fact, I think it improves my posture for long rides. But the floorboard space shrinks right where the boot is widest! It makes me sit pigeon-toed and stress twists my knees. Need more room or a peg. So ...YES, PLEASE!

OAD knows already that I'm in - was at the Barn on my MP3 yesterday with the BV and got the OAD creative juices flowing.

The bike is fabulous, but can be a bit cramped for the taller folks. This was a common malady for the MP3 riders and our good friend in NJ put a great deal of effort into development of a "bolt on, looks good" solution and has sold well over 100 sets. Many MP3ers count the pegs as the single best mod. Interested BVers should check out the footpegs on the MP board. Check out "UFP Footpeg Brackets".

2013 UFP brackets - SOLD OUT

I'm encouraged to see there is at least one more BVer out there interested.

OAD will do the heavy lifting and I'll make my BV available to home for investigation and testing.

I need to get my BV350, and really ride it to find out, but I'm always interested in ideas to give different positions to rest.

I think Scraping is going to be the challenge.
So I've been riding a bit with my feet suspended in "near footpeg" configuration, at least with the preliminary idea to model something similar to the MP3 footpeg project.

When I sit with my heels on the bike, but my feet turned out off the bike, with about 1/3 (maybe a bit more) of my feet off the bike, I am hitting the bottom of my toes on occassion. I would say it drags on about 75% of "my" maximum lean angle - ordinary turns and cruising, no problems. Trying to be a bit more aggressive (but not twisties), I begin to scrape.

The MP3 footpeg always had a scraping component, but is primarily limited to twisties. Appears a similar configuration on the BV is going to result in more scraping and perhaps to a dangerous level. However, I am optimistic we can get some ideas that help cruising, but have to fold away for twisties.

Just idle thoughts as we germinate on this.

Caveat - I have big feet - size us 13.

ahead for sure so one can get their knees a bit straighter. Don't know about above think it might be chopperish type ride/feeling. kinda like bent in half.

Yes, I think it is definitely going to have to be front and perhaps high, but I believe there is room to do something. OAD and I will work out some experimentation plan this weekend at our gathering in NC.

Highway Pegs
I am looking at this for attaching LED riding lights, seems to be the only place to make a bracket for this.
Let me know when you have proto-type. I can modify in Rhino 3D or CAD.

update.

TN Sooner and I took his BV to the machine shop. they are on board. They will have to do some calculations and proto types and come back with some $$ numbers.

right now we are looking at having them anodized black. thinking about seeing if they can cross hatch nurl the foot surface as well so they will have some grip. what ya'll think?

Sounds good, black suits me just fine! Interested in how you intend to have them attach to the BV, or are you looking at just doing the pegs and us sourcing the fitting plate ourselves?
Is there anyway of hiding the fitting plate (if such a thing is required?)

Anyway, good work, shame I won't be able to have before next month, as am off on a small tour ..

imagine the rubber floor board removed and replaced by a new metal plate that has an extension forward to the outside similar to what the UFP's are for the MP3's.

Knurled and anodized would made the anodizing last longer plus the traction you mentioned. I like.

Do you have an estimated cost yet?

No costs yet. they have to do the proto types and do the math.

There is a slight delay right now as TN Sooner was to bring his BV back this coming weekend to drop it at the machine shop for a couple days but he has a family emergency in OK and won't be able to get back for 2 weeks.

That looks great. Looks like ever more leg extension than the ufps for the mp3 Will there be a rubber bumper opposite the peg?

BV 350 peeps are going to love this. The ones we have for the mp3 are the best modification I have ever added.

I think it looks great too.

The prototype does not have the rubber bumper, but OAD showed them that feature today, so I think it will be added.

To fit on the BV, you'll pull up the rubber mats currently on the bike - save for posterity or discard. Once you've pulled the mats, you'll see 2 screws that go into the bike frame - pull those out and place the footpeg assembly and screw it down. The metal plate will replace the rubber mats.

The surface will be metal and could be slick - OAD and I believe that creates an opportunity for individualism with non-skid tape - maybe someone wants bathtub ducks or designs with the nonskid tape.

Very exciting to see the prototype! Going to be a big improvement for us taller guys, but I think the shortest adjustment will be a very comfortable addition for some of the shorter folks too.

Forgot to add - we are going with countersunk screws, which will leave a cleaner look and smoother surface (compare to the MP3 pegs which have screw heads sticking up).

depends on pricing on what options might be available. right now the bead blasted stainless look is what we MP3'ers have and that will be available for sure. Have to wait and see what the black anodize comes back as. As far a knurling them , not really an option as they would have to be individually cross cut and that is alot of machine time, so the costs would almost double or more.

That looks very good. What about dipping it in some black rubberized coating? Not the peg, of course.

that would be an individual taste option for sure. Lots of different sprays a person could use.
