Can anyone tell me what mileage one should expect to get on a set of original tires on a 300ie super. I have about 2600 on mine and the rear is starting to look a little skinny, however the front looks fine. And what tires get the best mileage when traveling> I did the 2012 cannonball with city grips and they showed little ware after the event . Capt. Gary

My original Pirelli gts24 rear tire only lasted 3,650 miles before it was into the wear bars. I replaced with a city grip which has about 7,500 now and is near the end of it's life. The original Pirelli gts23 front tire had some tread remaining at about 7,500 miles when I replaced it with another Pirelli. YMMV

Getting 3,000 out of Pirellis is good - City Grips and Power Pures should last 5,000 plus. The Power Pures are great for the drier climates and more progressive rider. The City Grips are good in all weathers, and for more 'upright' riding.

Below are shown Bill Dog's Pirelli and my Power pure rear tyres at the end of Cannonball. Bill's had done an extra 600 miles or so, mine did over 2,000 more before the tread met the wear bars.

As has been noted here, the Pirellis do wear faster. I use them nonetheless because I prefer a sticky tire.
