Yesterday, one new Vespa scooter was spotted riding on the street in Vietnam with all of the body covered with tap.

Here are some photos :

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

http://cdn.tinhte.vn/attachments/img-20130604-00233_zps5e8a2440-jpg.1181915/

my ideas :

1./ base on the front suspension, this is 100% vespa scooter, not piaggio

2./ base on the rear lights set-up, it looks like the GTS.

3./ base on there is no rear break disc, no passenger foot peg, it will not be the GTS.

4./ base on the engine, it's the new 3Valve engine for small frame vespa/piaggio vehicles.

1+2+3+4 ==>> could it be the new low-cost GTS with 3Valve engine ??

welcome any discussion. This topic is very HOT now in vietnam [/img]

According to some trusted rumour, this will be the new version Vespa, with its price places between vespa LX and Piaggio Liberty

I deleted all photos of the cheap variant of the vespa LX, and add some more photos of the new vespa model that now being test on europe roads without tape and bubble. They look the same, thanks to the visible dashboard:

now this is the clearly new vespa model, with code name Primavera

based on the source, this is the new vespa codename Primavera 125, with new suspension applied from 946 and new, better design. I guess the current Vespa LX will be discountinued ![/i]

The one part that doesn't quite sit right is the idea that this would be a 3V engine in what has always been a liquid-cooled bike. Assuming we're talking about a GTS here (and I can't tell for sure if we are) there's no good reason to use a 3V head when a 4V head is possible with liquid cooling.

That's not to say they aren't repurposing the new engine for a GTS125 model, but I wouldn't expect it to be a 3V head and be liquid cooled.

I think the more plausible explanation is that this bike is actually the successor to the LX125, uses the air-cooled 3V engine, and that Piaggio are going ahead with the larger wheels found on the 946 and the Fly. That would make it essentially the same size and shape and design as the 946 but with a full saddle seat and underseat storage.

Also, note the seat lock on the side of the saddle, under the passenger's leg. This is a typically LX-style configuration.

EDIT: That could also be a rivet for a seat strap.

EDIT2: Except that the rivets for seat straps are generally on the inside of the seat bucket, not the outside.

Looks to me like it has training wheels, just behind the centerstand.
...Or perhaps it's a new, under-the-scooter storage compartment.

Or maybe they were reading about the crash bar thread and just decided to bubble wrap their scooter.

Very curious to see what is under that wrap.

Have to agree with Jess on this one, since the tape and bubble wrap on the leg shield seems to preclude liquid cooling. This must be a prototype new LX with at least the leg shield having a more "946" like silouette. I like the arm padding and knee pucks on the test riders who look ready for some agressive testing.

It could be the test bed for the new LX.

Supposidely, it should be unveiled at the Milan show in November.

You seem intent to demonstrate, Jerry, that you know everything.

This is usually a bad sign for someone with very few posts.

Except the transmission case is not found on any other Vespa at this time.
Same goes to the front suspension cover.
The turn signals, even covered do show a different design not offered on any current Vespa.

Remember also that Vietnam was the test county for the 3v 125/ 150cc engine before it was released for Europe and the rest of the world.

The only thing that makes me suspicious of it being a prototype is the haphazard way that the body is covered. I lived near a GM test site and clearly remember the flexible (magnetic?) panels that would cover entire bodies. This looks like something I would slap together.

Robocopvn,

Are the 2013 LX125ie and S125ie 3-valve models available at the dealers in Viet Nam yet? I think it's one of those. And someone might have guessed correctly. Since it's very new there, they don't want it to get scratch or dirty when transporting from one place to another.

As the 946 is only just showing up at dealers, I think we can give him a pass on that. It's clearly the new 3V motor, but that's clearly not the 946. Thus, the mystery.

Piaggio mentioned in their annual report last year that a replacement for the LX would be rolled out this year. Makes sense that it would sport the new motor.

sorry mate, you're wrong. I'm from Vietnam, and Piaggio Vietnam always test their new bikes like this. But this is the first time they wrap up there scooter. That's why it's so secret. But this is the 4th, 5th time Piaggio Vietnam ( headquarter of Piaggio PACIFIC) test new scooter on the road before realeasing like this. In the past, they tested liberty i.e , Vespa i.e, Vespa and liberty 3v, LXV 3V, now this mystery one

In Vietnam, they move new scooter from factory to dealder by specialized truck, not like this with 2 man who forced to wear full protected clothes and full size helmet when they only ride 30-40km/h haha

LX 3V and S3V avaible in Vietnam from July 2012, so there is no reason for this. Plus, nobody wears like this in Vietnam traffic, you can search google photos. Only Piaggio riders who forced by the company to wear full protected clothes like this.

plus, you dont see the unique rear lights set-up ??

to be sure, this is not the first time we vespa fans see piaggio test new scooter on road with 2 men like this . SO we now can focus on the new scooter

you guys can see these photos , when Piaggio test the new fly i.e just before the big EICMA 2011 show in Europe publish the Fly i.e. See how they wear clothes

oooh, exciting, I remember seeing "spy" photos of the GT200 wrapped up like this in Scootering magazine (this was before everything was uploaded straight onto the internet).

For better or worse it seems to have a side-stand and a rear sissy bar but no rack.

The profile of the rear still looks quite LX-like from what I can see through the covering, like the more squared off sides compared with the ET range.

Now does that look like a round headlight or another shape? Hard to see 100%

I'm looking forward to seeing more though, I hope more photos come to light!

breaking heavily judging by the rake of the suspension arm and the position of the front wheel in relation to the mudguard (and it looks like the rider is about to get the tell tale clout on the back of his head indicating that the pillion has fallen asleep again)

The second photo isn't really a proper photo -- it's a directory. The trailing slash is the tell. The CDN server where the photo is hosted is using some clever trickery to give the appearance of a photo when the address is loaded, but the address is not of the picture itself.

So no, that won't embed.

Just proving my lack of knowledge, I would never have guessed that Vietnam would be the location for so many Piaggio/Vespa spy shots of upcoming releases!!! Guess it makes sense with all the P2W vehicles on the road there!

Anyways love the speculation etc etc and am glad to have learned about Piaggio/Vespa doing so much testing in Vietnam!!

No. Definitely not. I suspect Piaggio corporate makes them wear full protection, which seems, errr... out of place in VN.

I know a very important person at Piaggio HoChiMin.

This person informed me that it is a new Vespa for worldwide release.

They are having a few glitches though that are holding it up.

The towel rack/dryer unit that looks like a saftey handle on the back of the seat, is giving them some electrical issues.

Tech is considering swapping it out for a seat handle.

They also said upon release they may offer the towel dryer as an option.

First, yes, we dont wear that big helmet in Saigon. But please call our lovely city Saigon, not HCM

Second, this may be the shock for everyone. Though it's not 100% sure but there are more photos of this mystery scooter today. And it looks like there is a scooter from another company who try to steal (copy) the design of Vespa ... sigh ....

look like the same scooter we spot few days ago. But design is easy to copy, but how can they copy the engine of Vespa 3V ??

but to me this is not an vespa, no immobilizer (EDIT: there is an immobilizer), weird dasboard, ugly design in every angles .....

PROBLEM SOLVED !! INTEREST LOST !! FEELING PITIFUL

update: SOME RUMOUR TELL THAT THIS IS THE NEW VERSION OF VESPA LX, VESPA LT O_o. COULD BE COULD BE !!!
