My scoot was fine up until recently. What's the cause of this and how to fix. Thanks.

Balance
Could it just be a balance issue? If you just installed a top rack or case, or have a lot of stuff in the pet carrier it could cause the bike to tip on its rear wheel.

A lot of stress gets put on the center stands. My guess would be a bent center stand, they are easy to replace (though not cheap)...

So, do both wheels touch the ground (bent center stand), or does the rear wheel touch the ground instead of the front wheel (extra weight in topcase or on rear rack)?

Do you park outdoors on the street at all? Maybe some asshole sat on it bending the stand.

The front is touching the ground. There is no top case. Just the scoot. No extra weight. I park in apartment parking lot but I cover it. It would be kind of difficult to sit on with cover on I would think. From your guys suggestions it seems that the center stand is bent. Thanks for your help guys. If anyone else has any ideas I would like to hear them. Thanks.

Isn't the center stand attached to the engine? So the shock not being attached or loose wouldn't matter. Can you post some pictures?

I didn't realize there was a "correct" way for it to tilt. Mine will stay whichever way I put it.

Thanks for the additional replies. The shock is connected I presume. How will I know if it's not? Will the scoot ride funny? Also, how far off the ground should the tire normally be?

have you change your front or rear tires to a larger size/dimension? like (front) 120x 70x11 or 110x80x11 (rear) 120x80x10

This happened to use right after we upgraded our tires to the 140s so not sure if you recently changed tires or not?

Sitting on the bike while on the stand isn't going to bend the stand unless that person was quite overweight. I (175 lbs) always sit on my bike and rock it off the stand by shifting my weight aft-then-forward. No problems in 4 years.

Best

Either a failed centre-stand, failed shock, or failed engine swing-arm or 'silent blocks'.

Take a look at each, post a photo of anything that looks unusual.

Mine did this too after changing to a 140 rear tire. The rear tire feels much closer to the ground when on the stand.

I have to add that I had been noticing for about the past month or so that the tire had been getting closer to the ground ever so slightly until it finally touched down. Does the setting of the shock affect it? It's set to the right most notch.

No, the setting of the shock doesn't (or shouldn't!) affect it. Check the top of the shock - is it securely bolted down? Again, *pictures would help!*.

My LX150 sits about 1/2 inch off the ground. I do believe if the shock is disconnected the tire will fall and hit the ground. If the shock was disconneted at the top or bottom it would be very noticeable when riding.

If it were my scoot, I'd get this figured out before riding it. The chance that it's a knackered or disconnected/loose shock scares me. Instability at speed is no bueno.

The shock can be loose at the top and you might very rarely feel much difference, depending on your riding style.

Not to belabor the obvious, but are you sure you are parked on level pavement?

A slight depression in the pavement between the wheels will allow the rear wheel to touch.

Otherwise -- and assuming the tire sizes are stock -- the first thing I'd check would be the rear shock mountings, as others have suggested.

I think Silver Streak is on to something. Yesterday I took my LX 150 out for a spin. Since I purchased my 300, the 150 was first in the shop getting a new rear tire and carb work done. Yesterday I went to check the tire pressure in the rear tire and it wouldn't move - touching the ground. Wondered "what the hell, the tire size is correct." My driveway is made of pavers. I moved the 150 to another spot, put it on the center stand and lo and behold, the rear wheel turned. Given that the other explanations for the wheel not turning involve rather serious malfunctions, look for the simple answer first.

Here's a couple of pics. I checked the shock and it feels solid. Not loose one bit.

Dude the angle of that first pic looks like someone is holding the front up. I am calling bullshit on this one. Let's see a pic of the whole bike. If it still does this the I will eat crow.
