As per request from my Pinasco 225 topic
https://modernvespa.com/forum/post1636536

I'm Maarten, 38, from the Netherlands (Kop van Overijssel).
Been cruising on, and restoring, conserving, tuning, or messing up Vespa's for 10 years now. Currently in the shed I'v got a '63 GLx, a '78 Rally, a V50R and a Motovespa T3 (the latter both in parts).

My GLx is a previous rat, rebuilt to be a modernised classic; it sports a PX Pinasco kitted engine, battery (for my GPS), digital SIP speedo and a bunch of other goodies.

Except for paint and bodywork, I try to do everything restoring Vespa's myself.

Previous incarnation:

My Rally has a bit of a modern twist also: the color is original Piaggio for a Rally (sold in Germany I believe), but I chose for a matted nano paint.
Had the stripe's painted, not stickered. Except for a SIP Road and a 12V conversion, this one is totally original, with mostly original parts too.

I've made, quite an extensive, reference album showing the buildup of the Rally, from scratch, with per part photo's:

BOTH bikes are so perfect! They look exactly right, but not quite stock. The GL w/ yellow booties kills me Laughing emoticon & that nicely fitted rack is the icing on the cake. Where did you get it? I googled 'Vespa madrid rack' and the ONLY one I found even close was this one on a modern scooter, but it has only 4 bars..

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text
Made in Britain, from this 2010 thread

Yours appears to have 5 bars and I have a similar rack from a Velocifiero, but mine has 6 bars & is wider. After seeing yours, I'm thinking of adapting it for my GL if it's not too big. I could shorten the mounting legs & tap into the ends of them to bring it closer to the body & eliminate those mounting tabs. Hmmmm... too wide?

this one is more like your 'Previous incarnation'

Thanks for the kind words. Stock, but not is exactly what I was aiming for

I don't think the rack is Madrid style, more 70s Lambretta - SIP has 'em:
http://www.sip-scootershop.com/en/products/luggage+carrier+rear+_75402100

If you get one, and don't want to deform your frame; don't tighten the nuts superfast, and get rubber fittings.

v oodoo: like your rack too - might be a bit more practical then mine is
Yours is way less ratty then mine was before I done it up I even miss the old rat a bit.

Thankyou, Mr10, for the rack source & additional info and pic links. SIP, who'd a thunk it?
The link to SIP's rack led me to this similar rack they have that is bigger, but looks like the same price of $54.60.

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text
Yours is a svelte 18 x 12(400G) and this one is an 18 x 20(700g) fatty, more like mine. It's apparently intended for Vespas, here's SIP's description:
Quote:
Another strong "must have" for all friends of the Sprint-Rally-SS180 models who are looking for an ornate yet useful rear luggage carrier. Designed by 70ties Italia, this version needs no additional drilling work. The silhouette of your scooter's rear section will stand out even more beautifully instead of being disfigured.

For Vespas with the round shaped frames like VBB1T, GS160 1° you have to drill 2 more holes into it to fix it perfectly.
edit: LINK as requested.

I do like the look of your smaller rack better. More subtle.

Seen that one too, but I can't figure out how that one would fit with a buddy seat. Seems to me its quite long for the room it has to fit on...

Gotta be tall enuff to go out over the tail light, I think. Look at these. Similar result, but without the bars going forward, you gotta drill the 4 holes.

Trying to reinstate the yellow boots as the well respected 60s accessory they once were And putting up a big middle finger to anyone who'd mistake this scoot for a viet-bodge because of the bootsies

I think the yellow boots are hilarious. Guy I bought my GL from did a restoration of a Rally ....then threw some yellow boots on there. I love it....it seems to really irritate the purists. Nothing like getting some scooter nerds all riled up about things like this. Especially when you consider it's such an insular little culture where most people wouldn't even know the difference. Good show sir....the bikes look fantastic.

Here it is:
