I usually use the Back button, as it gets me back to the thread I was reading when I decided to grace the board with my ill-thought thoughts.

How about a "Go home, your Drunk" Button?

Don't know anyone who would use that button...nope.

I've used it on occasion... depending on how feisty I'm feeling.

Do you mean to say that drunken internet ramblings are frowned apon around here? Oh man.... You just took the wind out of my sails.

Maybe more of a "I was drunk when I posted this" notation button. Then we could see if the continence of a persons post can be blamed on drunkenness [good or bad].

I have, but was left with the unsatisfied feeling that nobody knows about it. I know it is not quite just walking away, but it would be cool if a post would be generated like:

Bill Dog saw this, started to reply, but just walked away.

Unlikely to happen, eh? I mean, not the feature... I'm talking about the Bill Dog part.

It will review your post to see if you've said anything stupid.

On another board I frequent writing in pink means posted while drunk.

I thought I was the only one who was seeing Just Walk Away.

Is your use of the word 'continence' intentional or did you mean 'context'.

I'm just thinking about it, someone could say.

"Oh! Sorry about the last post I'm incontinent!!!"

I haven't used it (except to test what it actually did the first time I saw it). But I like that it's there.

It's kinda like the 'Dangerous Curves Ahead' sign on the road. It isn't giving you orders like a 'no passing' or speed limit sign. It's just reminding you that you are about to enter an area where you need to exert a little more control than usual.

I like that (and the reminder has definiately helped).

Haha a friend of mine just got permanently banned from this by Jess! Over on the iOS7 thread that is now locked. Hahaha never received a temp ban or anything, just WHAM... banned hahaha sucker.

perhaps he should have used the walk away button! Still it was a bit harsh I think looking at the nature of the comments.

I don't like seeing anyone get banned... mostly because I hate conflict of all kinds (which is one of the reasons I like the close moderation here on MV; which some people find smothering).

That said, when someone does get the ban hammer, there's usually a lot more going on than meets the eye.

Without knowing the history and all of what has transpired between the recently exiled and the mods/site owner... best not to weigh in.

Just my advice (and worth every cent you paid for it).

So do these walk away posts get sent to the moderators lounge where they can all get a good chuckle?

Agreed, my mate insists that there weren't any PMs or anything, I think Jess might have had a bad day lol.

Clicking that will automatically filter your posts and ban you if any of the following subjects are in the thread title or the message body;

Floor Mats (personal favorite of Jess)

What oil to use?

What octane gas is required?
Can I mix coolant?

Just used it today for the first time. Very handy.

As a general rule, all posts which start out with "I'll probably get banned from the forum for writing this, but..." should automatically divert to the "Just Walk Away" button.

anyhows, i'd vouch that the majority of peeps that start a post with "I'll probably get banned from the forum for writing this, but..." probably consider a banning the least likely outcome, so i find it more than mildly amusing and appealing to my twisted sense of ironic reverse psychology when they do

it's Jess's gig, and i for one respect that enough not to go into reams of counter argument in respect of how to or not to run a forum, or anything else for that matter, i'm a guest here FFS!

Never having been known for diplomacy, I have learned to use the "save draft" feature for all emails.
Write it. Save it. Walk away.
If I still feel strongly about the topic, I come back later and edit. Sometimes more than once. Often this cool down period allows me a head shake and laugh at myself.
And usually results in "discard draft."
