Hello All,
I have FACO front and rear racks on both my Vespa PX and GTS250. Am trying to find a way to hold the spring loaded racks down when holding lightweight bags etc. Does anybody know of a device or suggestion to easily hold rack down without tieing or bungy the rack so when I take bags off the rack will easily spring back to its locked position?
Thanks everybody.

There are plastic clips that come with the racks which have a tendency to break or fall off within seconds of being attached.

There are also aftermarket machined aluminum clips that are designed to hold the rack in position like this one from an MV member:

Many just use zip ties (which break after being in the sun) or the metal bands one uses to attach hosing.

But the easiest solution (IMHO) is to simply reverse the springs so the rack stays down and not up. Just be careful when taking the rack apart to do this as the spring can bite you pretty hard.

Another common solution, if you want something easily removable, is to use those little double-sided Velcro style ties normally meant for computer cables. Pretty cheap, don't require tools to get off, and you don't need to reverse the springs.

You mentioned no bungees. But I'll note that I found a pair of bungees at a bicycle shop that was closing a few years ago that are fantastic for simply holding a rack down. They're the thickness of a regular bungee, but they're only about 4-5 inches long when not stretched. Easy to wrap around just one bar of the rack to hold it down (one works, but two are much better), and they stay out of the way when I already have a solution for tying down whatever it is that I'm carrying. I keep them in my glove box to use on the rack all the time (I did go ahead and reverse the springs for the rear rack).
