Hello! I've recently purchased a new 2013 Vespa GTS 300ie. I had a 2011 Vespa GTS 300ie. Both scooters are great. I upgraded due to the estimated costs for up coming service visits on the 2011. The first 500 mile service is around $260.00 dollars, and the 4000 mile service was $370.00. Is this normal pricing at all dealers?

I also noticed on the 2011 the tires were wearing and would need to replace them,if I kept that one I was planning to replace the tires at 8000 miles ??
Normal ?

Thanks,
Dave

For both those services they only thing the dealer replaces is the oil and filter, the remainder of the service is just inspection of items like brakes, throttle cable, greasing brake levers, loose connection, etc. The 4000 mile service should be a little more involved with inspection under the CVT cover i.e. checking belt, rollers for excessive wear, valve lash. Effectively you paying for a lot of inspection labor. The prices don`t seem out of line if the work is actually done. I personally have trust issues with most people I hire to do work for me, so invariably I do the work myself, its not that difficult and typically these services would cost under $20 if I do them. The tire wear you experiencing sounds appropriate and normal.

Thank you for replying apu123. I've found to be a little suspicious of the dealer service department. Your explanation helps me understand whats going on... Thanks again!

Midnight Rider, the 4000 mile service is mentioned in the owners manual under the maintenance section. The mfg. states oil and filter change, I was expecting around a $70.00 dollar invoice. The dealer doesn't agree with this recommendation. I guess it's the money thing... Thanks for replying.

Hmm, maybe your 2013 is different, but until now the only oil change intervals i was aware of after the 600 miles service was 6000 miles. There is an oil level check at 3000 miles, but I think your dealer is making a lot of money out of you!!!

Midnight Rider, you're absolutely right! This is what happens when you're not familiar with mechanical procedures like this,
which follow your purchases.

Thanks,
Dave

In fairness to the dealer, you can certainly bring your bike in early for the 6000 mile (10,000 km) service. No reason why the dealer would not do it when you asked. Of course, if you asked him when the next regular service was due - he should have told you . (there is a table in the owners manual)
