We're headed down from Denver to the BOOMING city of Amarillo, TX. Visiting some friends. 430 miles each way. I have a new tire, a fresh tuneup, and a desire to leave early to avoid heat!

Pictures to follow!

Which way are you going?

Just east of Amarillo on I-40 there is a Route 66 truck stop that I keep meaning to visit. I love taking the back way down through Santa Fe when travelling between Breckenridge/Denver and Houston.

Went through Pueblo, Raton, Dalhart, Amarillo.

It was a fun trip. LOTS of wind. I need to request the pics/video from my wife's phone since she did some pictures.

I did take a few of the totally redneck bathrooms. Nothing says classy like John Deer plates over the throne.

Wind hit us in the panhandle on the way down. It was tough to keep at 70mph. Got the worst MPG on there. On the way back we were fine, but hit rain/morons in CO Springs. People were driving 90 through a construction zone in the rain, a little too close to us for comfort. We did make it home though. Overall just shy of a 1000 mile round trip.

Colorado Springs with the fires really needs the rain. Pity you had to ride through it but sounds like you had a great trip overall. We'll be doing some of that same route tomorrow as we migrate from Houston to Breckenridge for the next few months.
