I use my Vespas for daily commuting but I think the 946 with no packing space will be a weekend ride only. Pity. More money than sense in my opinion. I just don't see the appeal. I'd rather buy a decent mainstream vespa which has parts which are easily found rather than having to sell a lung just to replace some panels, or testicle for a new seat. Besides, the money saved from buying a mainstream vespa could go towards more petrol (happy days). ![]() |

I've learnt something today; I 've never heard about disemvowelling as a method of moderation. It works, it makes a reader to skip the post. I thought Rusty did it on purpose, to look extravagant

I would gladly have bought a 946, of course that is provided I had $12,000 laying around for the OTD price. In all honesty it would have been a scooter to buy, cover, and keep unused in the garage waiting for the day that someone would pay big money for it. With such a limited release it would become quite a coveted item for a collector down the road... that is of course in my opinion.

I didn't realize how wasp-like the rear of the 946 is until I saw that video. It's pretty cool! Can't wait for the commercial version "for the rest of us" to come out in a few years...

The SIP wheel is NOT the same as the factory 946. Nice wheel but not same. I'm tellin you....Vespa hit it out of the park with those wheels. |

So after visiting the dealer on Friday I have a little more information on the 946's.
They only make six a day. My dealer ordered 15 but could only get 7. They are 125 cc and NOT 150cc as we were originally told. There is NO 3 valve 150cc engine yet !? (Can anyone in the USA or Australia actually confirm that they have seen, have, or been promised a 946 150cc for delivery in the first batch ?) I was shown some accessories that are available now. The carrier (very nice) The machined saddle 'side fixtures' (nice) The machined 'front hub cab' (nice) The red saddle bag (nice, but the zips are not) The matching white or black helmets, open face with retracting sun vizor. Beautifully made and looks stunning with '946' on the side I also received a '946 Welcome Kit' It is a chrome desk 'paperweight' replica of the cement sculpture in Pontedera. Our 946's have already been shipped and are now due for delivery around the first week in August. |

Paulm, I'm getting a 946 and by all accounts the US will be getting the 150 version.
My dealer in Dallas has the new Fly 150 and that is supposed to be the same engine as the 946. |

Moto Mark, Thank you for the info. Any idea when you can expect delivery?
I was also under the impression that it will be a 150 until a week ago. I have not seen any official documentation or announcement that there will be a 150, I just assumed that the salesman new what he was talking about when we placed the order. By the way, I also had a Rally 200 back in the Seventies that I bought new. Before that in '67 I bought a new 180 SS series 2 (the red one). That was my first Vespa and I have very fond memories about that. I even found a photo of a friend sitting on the 180 that I photographed in '67 / '68. I also saw a beautiful example of a Rally 200 in Italy a few weeks ago when we had a Vespa Holiday trip in Sorrento. Anyone in Australia have confirmation about getting a 150cc 946 ? |

I'm not expecting the 946 until the around October / November, the US usually gets the new models later than the UK or Europe.
The US traditionally gets the 150cc versions of the Piaggio / Vespa engines. |

946 means what?
All the other current Vespas have alpha designations, what is the reason and symbolism for the numeric 946?
Is the 2014 production of 946 limited to some number of units or is Piaggio allowing the price to make this a limited production model? Has there been any indication what Piaggio/Vespa will do in 2015 or latter in 2014 if the demand is there for more sales? Will the 946 be continued or a high volume version called the 950 introduced? Pretty bike, and yes those wheels are awesome, but at $3500each they should be. |

That rear shot is pretty cool.
I am liking the curved lines. That being said, what do you all think of the seat from this point of view? |
