Before going on vacation, I pulled the battery and put it on the trickle charger. After returning home, I discovered that one of the rectangle nuts fell out and I cannot find it. I ordered a new set, but is there any safe way to keep the battery cable attached in the meantime? Wouldn't a cable tie be safe or will it get hot and melt?

a cable tie will NOT give a good enough connection and will cause you problems. Use a good bolt and nut.

Ok, thanks. I don't have anything that will fit inside the battery terminal and neither did the hardware store. I guess I will just have to wait for the new hardware to arrive.

they do make zip ties now out of metal. Instead of plastic.

You might try one of those.

Did you try a motorcycle or battery shop?

Yeah, the battery shops around here are pretty much useless. I'm digging around in the shed to see if I can find anything to tide me over until the replacement parts get here.

Anyplace that sells anything power sports, snowmachines, jet skis, should be about to help you out.

Heck if you want to go a few mile west of Carson City I bet my cousins have some old battery bolt kits sitting in their sheds or garages.

You could also grind down a thicker nut to make it work, it doesn't have to be a square nut.
