The Mrs just passed the Mod 2 (Bye Bye L plates)
The traffic was realy heavy this morning she was asked to join a dual carrage way bur it was tailed back and a 72 seater was blocking the slip road.

The examiner asked her if she knew how to "Float".
Shake of the head from the mrs. He then instructed her through the traffic and proceaded to make her lane split for a half a mile or so.

Never heard of this being done in a mod 2 exam.

Well done that woman!

I've never heard the term "float" before.

I know it's OK to filter on a test (but, imho, why would I do that? Back in my day, at least - maybe it's different now, the test slots were timed, so I was happy to sit in traffic, since filtering isn't mandatory), but tbh I don't even know the legal position about lane splitting in stationary traffic . I mean, I'd do it (carefully), but I've never thought to ask whether it's legal.

It must be legal, she was instructed to do it by her examiner. The best of it was that he told her to stop because his bike was too big for the gaps he was sending her through.

Glad I was never asked to do this.

Legal in stationary or slow moving traffic I believe (UK):

Rule 88
Manoeuvring. You should be aware of what is behind and to the sides before manoeuvring. Look behind you; Use mirrors if they are fitted. When in traffic queues, look out for pedestrians crossing between vehicles and vehicles emerging from junctions or changing lanes. Position yourself so that drivers can see you in their mirrors. Additionallly, when filtering in slow-moving traffic, take care and keep your speed low.

Remember: Observation - Signal - Manoeuvre

Facepalm emoticon D'oh - yes of course it must

Unless he was just very impatient, and there were cakes back at the test centre, and he hoped she'd keep quiet if he didn't fail her Laughing emoticon
