Modern Vespa

Hi guys, after my 125 cylinder took a dump I've been looking to upgrade. I found someone local selling a 177 polini kit. He says it is a second size kit that he had bored. So I'm not 100% what that means since he says he hasn't run it.

If I decide to go with this kit what is a good jetting starting point? I have the stock carb as well as the stock exhaust. The bike in question is a 79 p125x.

Seller said this when I asked what that meant:

I bought it new from scooterworks then I soft seized it then bought the second size from SIP. Never ran it but i did compression test it and i think it was around 90 but im not sure.

Any thoughts? He is selling for 150 so it's a chance for me to save a few bucks if it sounds good.

So is this right?

177 Polini cylinder bored to second oversize.
New second oversize piston w/new rings.
Does it come with a gudgeon pin? Circlips? Head?

If it's complete it sounds reasonably priced. You'll want to be sure the piston-to-cylinder clearance is right as well as the ring gap.

Do you know the specs for these? I believe it is complete so I just need to make sure it's all matched up properly.

If you are buying a used Polini kit for $150 I would rather recommend that you get a DR 180 cc kit brand new for like $240

Well it's technically a new bore and new piston. Just need some specs to make sure it's right

209 at Mercato less their 20% discount plus shipping totals about $175 to your door. Just installed one and it was a snap. I found the inside of the head a bit rough & hit it with some sandpaper, but good value here if you need a new 3 port top end. YaY Mercato!

How do you get the 20%?

Just call Dave if you have any problem, he'll set you up. You might have to buy something else to stay above $200 or something, I'm not sure.

I think you'd get it to your door for under 200 in the states and depending how far you are from Atlanta. I think my shipping was under 20, but I don't have my receipt handy.

Go with th Polini, you will be fast than th Ginch!

I don't buy used performance kits when they've been overbored, as I don't know that the machinist used the correct tolerances.
