My work took me to Washington D.C. this week. This was my first time here, so I went to the National Mall with my camera and gear.

Sunrise over the paddy fields

I took this yesterday and am quite pleased with how it turned out.

On major holidays in good weather, a group of volunteers put up and later take down American flags throughout the Geneseo City Park. Each flag represents a service member from our community. For example, one of the flags pictured here was for my Grandfather, a WWII vet.

I heard that there were roughly 750 flags put up this year. This is just a fraction of them from the North Park.

You may have noticed that my favorite photos tend to be at night, in low light, and pretty much always landscapes. I've always liked the challenge.

Sunday night, I took two friends who both happen to be professional photographers, deep into the mountains of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range. There were a couple places that have been calling my name for a while now, so this weekend became irresistible when the weather was clear and there was no moon.

This is a shot I took of myself. The lights on the horizon are the city lights about 80 miles away and the last bit of sunset. There's no photoshopping done, just some minor editing.

My friend, Brandon Manning, is one of the professional photographers that went with me. As I was setting up for Milky Way shots, he told me to freeze. He made this long exposure shot of me, and the Milky Way.
This is just another reason why I love photography.
The friendship and comradery forged by common interests and goals, and sharing the cool times in life.

Something is out there...

Redwoods

I wanted to include my 2 cents. This was my vacation in the pacific islands last year and just forgot about the daily hustle and bustle in the USA

I took this from the front porch of my desert place in Ocotillo, CA. I took several pictures that morning, each a few minutes apart, but never saw the cross, formed by the clouds in this shot, until I opened all of them on the computer.

So, this is not a picture BY my but a picture OF me. On Friday, they closed down work and took us all out to the range. This shot was taken by our professional photographer. Who just so happens to be my dad

Took these on the backside of Elkhorn Slough on Monterey Bay. I took these while out looking for the Monterey Moon Tree - see that thread for more on that.

I leo the orange moss growing on the plants of the first photo and the different colored algae on the second, Monterey is in the background at the foot of the hills drenched in fog, as it usually is this time of year.
