Modern Vespa

As I've said before, the view from your back door will seem far more exotic and interesting to me than the things I see every day. I share the occasional view from over here for the same reason... not because I find it so exotic, but because someone else might.

Still being on our summer trip to Italia and having brought our Vespa with us:

Just became available for photographing last night. I'm proud of this picture because the fact that I was able to take it means I'm not in agony anymore!

Nowhere near as good as most of the pictures on this thread but it's meaningful to me

Seriously, I set my little inexpensive point and shoot camera up on a tripod in continuous mode, pointed it towards the lightning and held the shutter button down with my finger . This is my first camera which I received as a gift from my son this past Christmas. I am still trying to learn about photography. I guess you could say that I am learning through trial and error and experimentation. I am growing to like my new hobby.

It looked like the storm was right on top of you. So for future reference holding the shutter button on a metal camera mounted on a metal tripod in the middle of a thunderstorm, uh, well, apparently gets good pictures!

I hear what you're saying Syd and yes the thought did cross my mind.

Ah, sweet that you got the shot! A lot of the times people use light triggers for those, other types of triggers... catching so much of the lightning is hard without one! Nice grab.

I rode my Vespa downtown last night and took some pictures of the fireworks display after the Montgomery Biscuits(don't ask) baseball game. Here are a couple of them.

Amongst the folk who enjoy shooting San Francisco, there is a term of "Threading the Needle." I was finally able to go take the time yesterday to do it.

"Threading the Needle" is capturing the pointed tip of the TransAmerica building through the top opening of the Northern Tower of the Golden Gate Bridge. The exact spot to go to can be a tough spot to get to, as you can't exactly park there. You will have to hike a bit, and locate the small spot that lets you get the shot.

For these reasons, I am happy to say, "I took this shot!"

Amazingly, this geezer just got out of 35mm, so there isn't much digital to share, but here's a couple i like.

Very nice photo, RangerAJ. There are many images around Colorado from Bear Lake, but you caught an exceptional view. Your picture looks surreal enough to have been painted by Bob Ross (Happy trees, happy sky, happy clouds...) Amazing pic, and from a smartphone, too.
