I've tried searching, however I haven't seen a clear answer.

I'm looking for aftermarket rear shocks for the MP3 400. I don't expect Ohlins or WP, however I am looking for a bit better adjustability and ride than the stock shocks. I'm not finding MP3-specific shocks on the usual vendor sites.

Are there compatible shocks cross-listed from other scooter models? As always I appreciate your advice.

I used Hagon shocks when I redid the once on my 500. They have options which do mount with a bit of work, and are a step up over the stock options.

Is the 340 mm shock the one to go for if you just want to do a stock replacement with a better quality shock and NOT raise or lower the bike?

That would be my question too. I want to retain the stock height.

Thanks Maksor, but I don't quite understand your picture...I see where you can raise the shock bracket up to accommodate a shorter shock, but why would you need two brackets to mount a single shock and why only on one side of the bike?

Get the Bitubo's, they are the correct length, just bolt on and you don't loose any travel like you do with shorter shocks.
Part numbers, SC198WME02 for the MP3 400 and SC197WME02 for the MP3 500/Gilera Fuoco as it is ref in Bitubo's catalog, not cheap though, just laid out $520 for a set with shipping.

The numbers I gave are for black springs, chrome are available.

What Maksor did is move the bracket up to a higher setting (stock is where the partially attached one is on his pic) and used shorter springs. I believe that retains the seat height but loses you a little bit of shock travel.

With the Hagon 390, it's actually 25mm shorter (390mm vs 415mm) than stock but has 10mm more travel. Or you can get the 420s, which will add 5mm (or roughly 1/5 of an inch at the back, 1/10 at the seat), which also have 120mm of travel to the stock 110. Neither of those options require moving the brackets from the stock position.

You can do as WEB-Tech said, as well, and order Bitubos, but they're twice as expensive...

Most of my info was gathered from this thread:

lowering the 500

The Bitubo's have more adjustments too.

I'm not saying they're not a better choice. They very well might be. I don't know, though, because I haven't used either. I was just trying to present the info as I understand it.

But you're right, my post does look like it has a little bias towards the Hagons. That's not really the case. It's more of a personal bias towards choosing the cheaper option when presented with more than one viable choice...

If you have more insight to add to help us make better informed decisions, please do! I don't think that I've seen a comparison between the Bitubos and the Hagons...

Thanks again for all the feedback, folks! My head is hurting from all the info.

I do admit I lean towards the bolt-on solution. I need to figure out if I get this this done before I leave on my Santa Fe Trail trip July 27th (I get easily distracted with other projects).

I am just making sure all the info is out there. The Hagons don't have rebound and compression adjustment, forget which adjustment they have, think just compression? where the Bitubo's have both.

And it still baffles me how a shorter shock has more travel. But I guess I could see with a different body design, they could get more travel out of a shorter shock
