I have been using the tilt lock to stand my bike (MP3 250) up when I park it at night. I was wondering if anyone has ever had a problem where the tilt lock releases its self. If so I would like to know because I wouldn't want to wake up to my bike laying on the garage floor or my car. Thanks for any information. Cindy

Bad idea, simply because the hydraulic system frequently bleeds air a bit, resulting in you getting the notorious "5 Alarm Beeps" during startup... it's harmless, yet irritating.

Better to use the center stand, with the tilt lock either on or off at that point.

I disagree. I have hardly ever used my center stand for overnight or overweek. Any longer than yeah it can get sqishy after a couple weeks but I have never heard of one falling. I ride daily YMMV.

Thank You,
My wifes scoot never sits for more than one day at a time. She takes it to work 4 days a week and the other 3 days we go on rides when we can, which is most weekends for us unless we're off to the sprint car races.

Been driving since 2008 and have as of yet to experience any leaning. That being said I do go through a procedure of straddling the bike upon parking and releasing any stress in the front suspension then re-locking. Have only use the center stand when I'm away from home and have gotten out of the habit of never using the parking brake.

The experts on this site tell us that even if the front becomes "squishy", to use someone else's terminology, the bike cannot fall over.
As I understand it there are 2 systems - the hydraulic lock on the shocks, and the mechanical lock on the suspension. So, even if the hydraulic lock fails, the mechanical lock is still in place.

I have experienced the hydraulic lock not being up to standard on many occasions and have found that it is possible to push the bike sideways, too and fro, without it falling over.

I normally just use the tilt lock for parking, unless I am going on holidays, when I use the stand.

I parked an MP3 every day with the tilt lock for 2 years as long as the bike was being regularly used. Never had any problem. As sticky suggests, I used the centerstand when the bike was going to be sitting for extended periods.

I've left mine for 4 weeks on the tilt lock (forgot to put it on the stand before going away) and it was fine..

Not suggesting thats good practice though!

Have a parts MP3 in my basement that the hydraulics have been holding for almost 4 or 5 years (since fall of 2008 or 2009)
And the hydraulics only lock the shocks, they do not hold the bike up, that is done with a mechanical caliper.
And if you do have a leak, would you not rather know and fix it instead of just letting it go?

Perhaps I'm using the wrong word with "Leak", yet I've found that leaving the bike parked for days, using only the tilt lock, routinely causes the "5-alarm beep" at startup... There's no puddle of leaked fluid though, nor any obvious leaning of the bike.

It's simply a nusance issue for me, and totally avoided by parking with the center stand (with or without tilt lock also).

And yes, I bleed the tilt lock on mine... still get the darn 5-alarm beep after a few months though.

You have a leak, have your pressure sensor checked, bet it's seeping under the connector.
