I have an opportunity to buy this. Don't know the price yet but it was bought new (European import to Australia) by their father and it's been sitting covered up in the barn for about 15 years. They want it to go to a good home to be restored rather than just make money selling it.

Could someone tell me what model it is from this pic?

Also what are they worth?

Best bet is to email Niall at Retrospective Scooters in London - he will tell you all you need to know and be able to send you parts if you need them. Tell him I sent you.

At first glance,it looks like an early Sprint- they were as common as barn doors, probably Piaggio's biggest seller and an awful lot were imported to Asia in the 70's

It looks very clean in the pics but knowing me I'll end up doing a complete restoration.

I bought a brand new GTS 250 and managed to blow another $8k adding stuff to that so I recon this will probably get the same attention.

That bike to me is a relic(in a good way).

Look at the wear on the tire and the spare rack.(I believe that rack is next to impossible to find now)

Check out the wind screen/fairing.

If it is original paint than fuck-me-runnin.

I wouldn't touch it and do all mechanics to it carefully.

That looks to me like a complete un-touched, all original scoot.

If you go throwin stupid money at it all you'll do is ruin it.

Congrats.

It wouldn't surprise me if the bloody thing ran. I'll do some careful inspection, cleanup and fluid changing before we try and kick it over.

See what I added about the spare rack. The rack alone could be worth more than my scoot.

And do be slow and methodical if that thing is a time peice. Do not splinter or strip the screw heads(flat head).

Use the right size screw drivers and wrenches!!!!!!

Clean tank and fuel lines. Give the carb a good cleaning.

You lucky dog.

This bike as it stands, is very nice. Say it's worth 2500-3500, if you do a full restoration, it will be worth less than 2500.00. That is the honest truth.

Take the opinions here as they are giving you sound advice, do a mechanical restoration and leave it at that. What a beauty.

for goodness sake do not repaint it. you can easily clean up that paint and wax it and it will be better than any new paint and will hold its value.

Here's a '68 Sprint that Demon Larry redid for me. (It wasn't bad as is.). It came from Italy as "parts". I found it in Detroit and titled it in VT.

That's going to clean up nicely.. by the looks of it.. I'm in the "don't paint it" camp too.. Nice gift.. nice bike! 8)

Cheers...

REPEAT AFTER ME: "I WILL NOT REPAINT THIS SURVIVOR"

Any fucktwat with a few thousand dollars can buy a re-sprayed Sprint. You have the real deal and in better original shape than 99% of most out there.

And probably doesn't need a full restoration. Get it running and leave it the fuck alone. Or go buy something modern.

Do NOT paint this bike.

EDIT- If anyone out there has repainted their bikes, I rescind the expletive above. Maybe you had a good reason to. Repainting this one would be a crime though.

I thought about that too.. but the spare looks kinda 10inch-ish from here.. nit for sure though... also it may be the pic but something looks funky at the headlight.. ring and headset.. maybe just the material from the wind screen..

more pics if you've got 'em Monit!

Thanks everyone for your input. Bloody fantastic.

You're a different bunch of folks on here than where I normally hang out in the General Discussion section.

If and when I get it I'll just assess everything. Then I'll spend the winter making sure all the fluids are changed, engine won't cease with first crank, gas is clean, brake fluid changed, cables oiled, new tyres, plug etc, etc.

Then when the summer comes I'll get to know him and enjoy the experience of a classic. After all we're about the same age.

My neighbour has several early Vespas and belongs to a classic Vespa club so he is a great source of information as well.

Once next summer is over I will decide whether if I'm going to restore him or not. Whatever I do decide I can see the two of us will be together for a very long time.

The average time I own my bikes is 10+ years and given my age I think I'll be buried with him.

its defenitly a sprint cowl and i am totally sure its a late 60's 2 port sprint with the genuine 60's accesories, price to me is expensive so darn expensive since u have it for free.. u never can buy someone trust don you.. so dont paint the bike and keep it as it look just refresh the engine and smile while u ride it

congrats on the bike and cheer mate

Well done Monit, you got a superb find. I think its Karma - you were meant to have it, and I can see you'll appreciate it too. I've just got a 1975 GTR 125 that's pretty much the same as your Sprint, and after the GTS300, I'm going to love the two stoke style once the restoration is done (you're welcome to follow it for interest -> Full restoration log - 1975 Vespa GTR 125 )

Lots of opinions here but I'm sure you'll make the right choices. Good luck, have a ball

There's no communication breakdown.

The dude came on here showing us his find and inquiring.

He has been rude and has ignored what he came here for.

I would like for him and his bike to go fly a kite.

I think there's more important things to talk about.....like 2t oil or tire pressure to be perfectly honest.
