I'm thinking about ordering a Laminar Lip for my BV 350. I've seen a lot of people mention them for reducing wind noise. I'm just wondering if some of the people who have them can chip in with some specifics on how much the wind noise is reduced. Probably the relevant info would be rider height, speed, and the amount the noise is reduced, maybe expressed as a percentage.

Maybe I just don't understand how it works, but I don't see how adding 1 or 2 inches to the length of the windshield can dramatically reduce the wind noise.

Not a expert here, but from what I understand, the lip helps to channel wind further upwards in a wider parabolic curve. I would think how effective this is from the user's stand point depends on his or her torso height. If the user is really tall, the higher deflection of the wind from the lip may not do anything to reduce noise since the wind will still be hitting the helmet.

Assuming your scooter has a windscreen, when you're riding, you can test to see where the wind is being deflected by placing your hands along the edge of the top of the wind screen and then moving upwards. You'll notice the first few bits (cm) there's no wind, but eventually your hand will hit the wind. I think the laminar lip aids in deflecting the wind even higher.

So, this is my understanding.

I'd say Muriel pretty much has it right. The Lip physically extended the height a couple more inches in my case but the air flow through the slot and the turbulence off the curved top of the Lip move the air flow higher than what happens with a straight edge windscreen. In my case (I'm 5'9"), that moves the airflow up over my helmet while allowing my line of sight to be above the Lip.

From what I've read they are, they go on using some sort of 3M fastener.

Dooglas, we're pretty much the same height. I'm 5'9.5". Right now the wind gets blasted straight into my face and it's especially noticeable if I turn my head in any direction, like when looking for traffic.

So it's not about blocking the wind directly, but directing it further up so that it goes over you. Interesting. I guess that's why the windscreen doesn't need to be the same height as the rider. I think I understand the basic physics behind how the lip works now.

Yes, they are. Those "dots" you see in the photo are like the world's strongest velcro. They hold the Lip on the windscreen and allow the Lip to be separated for cleaning or repositioning. The company sells extra sets of the fasteners if you want to install the Lip on a different windscreen or whatever.

For some comparisons: Three BV 350 Windscreens Side-by-Side

There are several photos of windscreens with and without the Laminar Lip down through the thread. Mine is the BV 350 with the Laminar Lip. I makes a difference in terms of buffeting and noise.

This is obviously not a BV 350, but I do have a Laminar Lip on my GTS 300. I won't even try to explain the various reasons why it works at reducing wind noise and buffeting at high speeds -- I can only assure you that it works very well. Except to facilitate a thorough cleaning, I never remove it.

I've got a Wunderlich deflector on my BV350. It's adjustable and I'm pleased with the reduction in wind buffeting on the helmet without obscuring my vision.

yes, the manufacturer sells the 3M heavy duty velcro type buttons that attach the screen. I've had mine on 4 screens. I'm 5'11" and adding it to a Faco mid dumps the air flo on top of my head. It manages to do so in a manner that allows me to wear a ball cap at 40mph and keeps it on my head. There is ome leeway in mounting so it has an effective range on the base screen.

Installation help!
Hey guys,

I just bought this laminar lip for my bv350 and played around with height adjustments with blue tac holding them in place while I rode up to 80kmh. Overall I find the highest position the quietest and it's quite impressive I can hear myself talk when I lift the visor of my helmet going 100kmh!

Can someone tell me of they had trouble having the lip dual lock stickers sticking flush withthe wwindshield? No matter what heigh I place it, the curved nature of the windshield makesiit very hard for the dots to stick flat. I tried flattening the lip and this helped but I have to see how it holds up tomorrow. Any thoughts would be appreciated

I had issues with this as well. I just mushed it down and it's stuck like a champ. Been on probably 6 months now.

I have one on my BV350. I mounted mine low. It's probably only one inch above the stock one. Just the shape and the one inch gets me noticible and acceptable wind noise reduction.

What size are you guys using on a BV350, please?

I had one on my X9 for years (and sold it with the scooter), and it was excellent.

My wife might want one for her BV.

I've had my Laminar Lip on my Vespa's windshield for a couple of years now and am quite pleased with it. Since the windshield and the "Lip" have different curvatures, I use rubber padded clamps like these to help match up the locking dots until all four dots are locked in place. They have never become unlocked until I forcefully pull them apart.

I'm using the small universal, but I notice their site also now lists a model for the BV 350.

I cut my screen using a fine jigsaw blade. Looks so much better. I then added an MRA X Creen. Wind noise totally gone and bike looks great.
Can't get an aftermarket lower screen so cutting was the best option.
Didn't need the X Creen but it added a little more character.
