There is a scooter on my local craigslist: http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/mcd/3880864350.html
Do you think it is a "stay away" Vietnamese import?
Thanks!

Gick speeks the truth.. not a bodge.. both bikes look ok, but they're quite different.. you want a small frame or a large frame?

Wow! I am in the right forum!!!
I am looking for a scooter for myself. I don't care whether it is a 50 or a 150 to tell you the truth. I just love the classic old vespa look. I don't really like the look of the Px 150 or Stella, to tell you the truth. They are to modern for me. I am a photographer and I would love to use them in my photo sessions a swell! I have no knowledge about Vespas....however I have owned Aprilia scooters before and I am not afraid tuning fixing little things on the scooters...[/img] |

Right on Miami... IIWY I'd go for the SprintV.. they're great bikes.. I love a small frame, I'm after one myself, but the 50 is going to be all kinds of slow...
You'll probably get tired of putting around very quickly... SprintV go pretty good.. and the small frame can be a bit trickier to work on (so I've seen) as stuff is kinda crammed into small spaces... That sprint (maybe a bit high in the price?) looks like a pretty honest bike from here (repainted, but otherwise in good condition)... and you'll have good "oomph" to haul your bag of phot gear around! my 2c |

I'd jump on that sprint. The 50 will definitely be too slow. I can tell you from experience.

That's a nice bike, South Florida has a lot of non-P series shifty vespa's and you can find something really nice between $2000 and$3000. All the bodges I've seen in Fl are covered in chrome, the adds are overly discriptive and the sellers always want far too much money.

Not sure... that's why I ? marked it.. There's not much info on that ad.. how many miles on it.. original motor? These things will effect the value... I wouldn't pay more than 3 for it... some here may go lower, some may say it's fair! You should get some more info about it.. how many miles, is the motor original, has it been rebuilt and by whom... It's really worth what you want to pay for it.. but you're doing the right thing by coming here so you can make a more educated decision! I certainl don't think the price is astronomical like some we see... Let's see what some other "apparisers" here might say!
It's cool you're looking to get into scootering... keep reading.. it'll help you down the road! Cheers |

There are a lot of companies that will ship a scooter if the seller is willing.
I've seen this one around, like I said I passed on it but its only because my daughter is starting daycare next week and I kind of freaked out about the cost....er....the cost of daycare not the scooter. That bike is a good deal, daycare is not. |

Have you ever bought a scooter from Craigslist where you had to ship the scooter? |

Um, that would be me, one guy who bought a scooter off craigslist and had it shipped.
Here's how I did it.... I saw pics and talked to the seller. He seemed upfront about what he had, and didn't claim it to be "classic" "restored" or anything other than an older working scooter. I asked a LOT of questions, and got the kind of answers I would expect. I would suggest paying a local (to the seller) scooter shop to inspect the scoot and give you a confirmation that it is what you think it is. Or someone from MV could do it for you. I also got detailed pictures of some of the issues the sellers told me about (like cracked paint) and pictures of the VIN and pictures of the TITLE! I sent a small down payment via Paypal. Yeah, I know, it costs the seller a small percentage for the transaction, but I like Paypal because there is a mediation process if there is any problem later. I paid the remainder a few days before the transport showed up. He included the signed title inside the glovebox. I used uship.com for shipping the scooter from Western NY to the Boston suburbs. Based on what I calculated, it was cheaper for them to run the scooter out here than it would be for me to rent a trailer and take a LONG day of driving to pick it up (plus NY Thruway tolls!). There are some VERY professional vehicle transport companies, and the prices can be competitive. The company I chose was good with communication, and I was pleased when a 53' 18 wheeler showed up and my scooter was offloaded carefully. He had 20 something scooters and motorcycles (on 2 levels) on the truck, with a hydraulic lift gate. I was happy with everything, from start to end. Gonna get plates this week, and then I am scooting! |

I've used Uship and can give a thumbs up, service, price, and they really worked around my needs.
A scoot from southern California and several scoots and boxes of parts from the east coast. |

That's a nice small fame. If It's had all the work done to it that it says in the add, it would a decent deal. Perfect for beach cruising on A1A. Good luck.
