Hopefully this will help: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1311.R1.TR4.TRC1.A0.Xiphone+motorcy&_nkw=iphone+motorcycle+mount&_sacat=0&_from=R40

I can't offer any advice on the best mounts, as I just sync my phone to my Scala headset so I haven't needed to try yet.

Not bought any of them yet, but I've seen some interesting solutions from Interphone. Two different shops showed off the iPhone case and mount. It's a bit bulky, but does keep it dry in the rain. Opens easily enough, but could be tedious if like me you keep the phone in a case, as you would have to remove it each time.

What I do love the idea of is their handlebar remote, which clamps securely to the bar and allows you to do things like control the radio, change volume, and even use Siri.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: I should have added that the best iPhone mod is a power supply, as things like GPS eat battery like the world is ending in the next half-hour, let alone tomorrow. Don't think that your MP3 was built with a power socket, but many on this forum have found ways of getting USB or 12V power.

A little more expensive that that chinese crap on ebay, but your phone won't fall off while riding

I've been using one of these X-Grips for a year or so. Not the first hint of the phone coming loose.

IMO the best, super best mount for iPhone or the Androids is not the X-Grip from Ram, but another type RAM mount.

See below from a previous post on this subject:

On the way back from Fall Gathering 2012, I stopped at J&P Cycles in Daytona Beach and got THE BEST EVER mount for my iPhone. I have it mounted using a Ram 2 inch ball and socket device.

It is the Ram Mount Universal Spring Loaded Gadget Holder for Electronic Devices.

Now the reason I believe it is so great is that it has adjustable holders and the two top hooks are spring loaded. The adustable feature is great as it can accomodate various iPhones and Android phones.

Also, it has a solid back for support and protection, whereas the X-Grip seems to be a less secure environment.

This is a Ram product and uses their mounting system.

It will also fit an NC700x for those who are considering such.

Now I have recently bought the LifeProof case for my iPhone 5 to have a rain-proof solution. The case is not very bulkly for the drop and waterproof protection it affords. Got it at Best Buy Mobile, but other places have it.

Opps, here again is the link for the iPhone RAM mount mention in the above post:

It is a super deal, and more or less future proofs you when you upgrade or change phones. And again much more sturdy, I believe, than the X-grip.

I just picked up a waterproof 12v USB adaptor and the Ram Mount X Grip system. Should be here Tuesday so I'm hoping to install over the 4th.

Everything I've read has been extremely positive for the X Grip so I'm excited to see how it works.

Sorry to quote my own post, but I've realised that I am a plonker. There is no 'bare' bit of the handlebars to mount something like that remote on. Does anyone know of a way of having a handy control for the iPhone on an MP3?

David

P.S. The thread title is getting dangerously close to a "In Soviet Russia, MP3 plays iPhone" gag.

Totally agreed.

Here is one successfull installation with RAM Mounts to Vespa LS 125.
Items: RAM-B-238U, RAM-B-201A, RAM-HOL-UN7BU + stainless screws and spacers.

See pictures attached (sorry for the poor quality)

I have thought about this for some time.
It just hurts to drill holes, are make modifications to the original bike.

You could drill through the Dash ABS (Under the Windshield) and put a RAM Mount there permanently. But I have chose the latter.
I have been using successfully for a long time the RAM Suction cup mount on the Large GIVI windshield. Some times I have the Iphone mounted, and other times the Zumo 220 / Nuvi 550 GPS. Rock Solid, never had a problem.

I will see if I have a picture and come back and post.

Drill holes! It's fun!

Lol just kiddin'. To each their own.

I did mount a circular RAM base to my Dash cowl, behind the shield as Keith mentioned. I had it mounted first with the heavier suction cup, but it just worried me. I feel a little safer now

Currently using the XGrip mount for my phone, ordered the RAM 50lm Garmin mount today as well since I grabbed a new GPS.

(Sorry for the blurry pic, Mosquitos were eating me up.)

I think I would use the TomTom mounting kit, and mount the Ram ball to that. Adapt the wiring while I was at it...

I used RAM Mount on my MP3
Check this post I made from a couple years back.

This is what the stock saddle should look like on an MP3 500

Take a look at how I mounted my phone. I ran a USB cable from under the seat to the handlebars. It kept my phone charged all day, even while playing music.

Yea, I like that idea the best. I'm hoping someone did that who can post some pictures, so I can get an idea how to do it..
