Not really scooter related, however, my GTV is on one of my shots, and it's mentioned in the blog as I rode it to get the shots. A couple of awkwardly wording things got in that I tried to re-edit, but I am happy with the piece overall. Plus this seems like a crowd that might share the same sentiments as me where these faded past-times are concerned

Once again, a very nice write-up Liz! Thank you.

I would love to take some of those old drive-in signs and restore them. Works of art in my opinion. It is sad to see them just rotting away.

I have only been to a few drive-in theaters in my life and they were a lot of fun, unfortunately they did not survive with the 25 theater mega-plexs that were opening up when I was a kid.

Thanks again and keep up the good work!

Thank you so much. Those signs really are a work of art. I photographed the Bel-Air sign in the summer of 2009... When I took these photos, it is in much worse shape. It breaks my heart. I wish someone would see the value of restoring it, and perhaps moving it to a better spot. I'm debating if I want to fight the humidity to go out and shoot photos now. I have some shots that I really want to get, and it is miserable out there. Plus we are supposed to get some thunderstorms.

Another good one Liz. I like the trips I take with you!

I've been bouncing back and forth between FL-MA-ME a lot lately as we settle into the new home. I've noticed even some of those mega-plexes are ghost towns now. In my old little town of Vero Beach, AMC is struggling, and the refurbished theater is thriving with new releases a couple weeks late, "live" performances of the Met Opera, and oldies/classic nights with Hi tchcock, Star Wars, etc. The seating is great, and it looks and feels like a theater of yesteryear. In my new little town (one town over actually in Damariscotta) they do the same thing. I'm happy to see the little ones in little towns doing well.

All that said, drive-ins were fun!!

Nice writing, AND nice photographs, Liz. You do take us back a bit. Never had a drive-in close enough to go....nor a date, for that matter.... I think they were slowly fading already in my youth and slipped away one by one.

Nice of you to "save" a bit of the past...

Oh, and nice scooter!

Luckily, we have several old theaters still very much in use... and close by.

The next blog that I am working on is about the gorgeous old infrastructure architecture that is left here. Three stand-pipe water towers and two water inlet pumps in the shape of castles... among other things. Another on the architecture of Automobile row. And I am looking for an old-style amusement park that I can scooter to. We had a couple here, long gone. I miss the charm of those places. Six Flags may have some awesome mega coasters, but you can't really describe the place as charming.

Thanks! The dealer swapped some panels with a GTS, so it's sienna ivory and midnight blue. The front panel with the Piaggio emblem is midnight blue too. Somewhere there is a Midnight Blue and Sienna GTS. I have more pics that are recent. Damn I love that scooter. Never felt like that about any of my cars... But I love my scooter.

a very nice piece. I guess I am still old enough to remember going to drive-ins although with a date watching the movie was not top priority but still a fun event. Your article brings back so many fond memories. Keep up the good work and nice Vespa by the way.
