What's the current exhaust paint of choice?

The gasket has failed on mine, so while I've got it in bits, I may as well tackle the rust.

I've found this stuff the best...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Thermacure-Stove-Paint-200ml-/251012079784?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Other_Fireplaces&hash=item3a717c60a8

but with the 'preparation is key mantra', I gave mine a full clean with a wirebrush cup in an electric drill, then stabilised any deeper rust with Fertan

http://www.fertan.co.uk/

You can buy it direct from the manufacturer, or online (there may be a little price difference)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fertan-Rust-Treatment-Remover-Converter-30ml-Brush-On-/260830543439?pt=UK_Body_Shop_Supplies_Paint&hash=item3cbab63e4f

These are small bottles, about the same as a bottle of nail varnish, but I managed to do all of my exhaust with one. Its good stuff for seam rust etc too

So far (think I did mine earlier this year), the best results yet with that combo...

I use Hammerite high heat matt black aerosol paint. Good for up to 600°C. After wire-brushing the surface and before spraying, I apply Kurust or equivalent to stabilise any rust that's appeared since the last time - usually not much if you re-spray every time the exhaust comes off.

Just in from the X9 Forum's annual Stamford rideout: a lovely potter along country roads and through scenic villages, with lunch at Rutland Water. Word of warning: the car park charges now (but five scooters can cruise through on one ticket with a little coordination, ssh).

Same basic process for us both then. I gave Graham my first can of Hammerite I think, and he tried it but didn't rate it at all, so I've judged it on that, but I'm not sure he used a rust treatment first. So if Jim rates it, I may have prejudged it.

we did a potter of our own today - a 10-mile run along the canal, in a very decent time (about 1 hour 25 minutes). came back and gave Girlfriend her first proper wash 'n polish - she now gleams like a new pin

we also discussed the idea of me getting a hodna CG125 cheap 'n cheerful learner motorcycle sometime in the new year, to use for about 6 months, do a 2-day course and get my full license (hopefully), then re-sell at not too much of a loss. such a machine can safely be parked on-street as the local toeraggery don't have a clue how to ride them. that means that if/when i'm able to afford a more powerful machine, it won't necessarily have to be a maxi-scooter.

all of this will be financed by the wedge of cash coming my way fairly soon - i've been asked to fill in for one of our MA course leaders for 6 months from September, which means a fairly decent lump of anxiety pay

Pic reminds me of gunnery training at the Armor Officer Advanced Course. Tank full of Captains playing at each of the crew positions. One mate in our crew decided he wanted a "living target" rather than the old vehicle hulks on the range, so he put his cross hairs on a big tree right at the left margin of the range. Felled it on the second shot, and the Range Officer nearly went into cardiac arrest! Never figured out who the guilty party was.

Did get to post up pics tonight from last weekends run to do the 4th Beat The Bikers in Matlock, Derbyshire. Really good - with the Saturday ride up and around the dales, good pub food and drink Saturday night and just a few hours doing the mass ride on Sunday before turning for home, could be a good one for more Skoks to do next year 8)

I'm on my way back to Israel via Madrid (flying Iberia). Stuck with a ten hour layover, so rather than veg in the business lounge, I decided to venture into the city center to have a cold drink and soak up some sun.

Sitting in an outdoor cafe in one of the many 'plazas' in the center of Madrid enjoying free wifi and drinking nearly free gin and tonics, a new waitress (new, as in different from the girl who has been bringing me my drinks at an alarming rate), comes over and asks me something in Spanish which I assume is a request that I order something to eat from the menu.

I have only the most rudimentary grasp of Spanish under the best of circumstances, and that evaporated after my third gin and tonic. So I click over to my trusty google translate app and type in, "I'm sorry, I can't eat anything here, I am Jewish.", which I read out in my best tourist Spanish accent.

The 'waitress' walks away in a huff and the couple at the next table collapses in a fit of laughter.

I ask them what is so funny. They grab my iPad and begin typing into the google translate app: "She was a prostitute and your response to her had more than one meaning".

I'm thinking I should have paid closer attention in high school Spanish class.

In all seriousness, when I tell my wife about this it will reassure her that I am still the naive, bumbling nerd she married 22 years ago.

Arrrggghhh! Facepalm emoticon

There's got to be another £500 of accessories bunged on that new GTS. The red LX next to it was pretty much the same.
Evidently someone likes it.
'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder'

(I posted it because I know how much Bill hates 'retrofication' - though that's a great word)

Though why a new owner would take off a brand new GTS exhaust and replace it with a £400 Akrapovic is harder to fathom...

Sort of reminds me of being 8 years old and putting playing cards and odd things in your push bike spokes to make it 'sound like a motorbike'...

Oh the things we did. Err, oh the things we're still doing...

Harder still to fathom is why they didn't send the stock exhaust they removed to me!

Oh, well, we all do our thing. Mine is bunging stickers on the top box to show off places I've been. Cheaper than chrome, at least

On which note, anyone want a 'LUST RACING' sticker? It came with my suspension-lowering kit and doesn't really go with the Integra.

Yup I'll have that old malarkey if you don't mind.

I hate what's been done to that GTS so much I can't even form words.

It sucks big hairy donkey balls to quote someone better than me.

I love the pipe but not the whitewalls or floor mat. I do like individualised touches to make the scoot more personal.
Each to their own.
