i find it kind of creepy/weird/beyond coincidental that four Skoks coincided within half a mile of each other around the same time this morning without any planning
i wonder how many times this has happened without us knowing about it. We need a Skok version of Grindr ![]() |

All rested up after yesterday's 8 1/2 ferry ride with 2:15 AM arrival. A flight from Athens to NY is only an hour longer, but Milos is a nicer destination. Morning on the beach, an afternoon lay down, and then a ride back to the port of Adamas for a walk about. On the return, hit the final 4 km of steep, downhill switchbacks just as darkness descended. Was a bit less stressful being fully rested. Magnificant dinner on the beach.

Chuffed
I just got finished watching the successful launch of the Amos 4 satellite into orbit. My company built this, and all other Israeli satellites.
We also usually build the launch vehicles, but in this case a decision was taken to launch from kazakhstan... I'm assuming due to regional tensions and what a missile launch might look like to our neighbors. In any event, it achieved the correct orbit and we are now putting it through its paces to makes sure it is functioning properly. |

poorly scoot
GTS laid up at Scootech, wife and kids out in a total of three cars. To put the tin lid on it I left my car at work to have the scooter at home for the weekend! I need food, the dog needs food so I've dug out the panniers, pumped up the tyres and I'm back on the road on two wheels! Such fun! What a clever machine the bicycle is. Two bags of shopping too heavy to carry strapped to the bike and off we go without a care! I shall take advantage of the dwindling summer and use the bicycle as much as I can! Ding ding |

Pick Up
I've just got a pair of Tucano Urbano Muffs for the GTS from an eBay seller in London (Jim rates the Bagsters but for my few winter rides a year, 40% off the Tucanos swung it). Do any Skoks go anywhere near Battersea SW11 3DW and who might be able to pick them up and get them to me? A couple of Skoks will see me in Norfolk on 13 Sept, and Waspman will too (his GTS is currently in Scootech). Just a thought - the seller with post them but £8 p&p is a bit steep if a handover is possible...
Cheers all Paul |

the 'merkins can't really do a decent cup of tea, and the english can't really do a decent burrito. it's not about ingredients, it's some subtle alchemical thing to do with technique or ambient temperature or fluoride in the water, etc ....

What Brits or Yanks can't prepare properly?
Place our dinner order at a nice Chinese restaurant in Lanzarote, a popular holiday destination for the Brits. Imperial sizzling rice soup - something not found too often. Crispy duck. Twice cooked pork.
Waiter asks, "Chips or rice?" I give him an incredulous look and gasp, "Chips?" He chuckles and says, "Forgive me. You are obviously not British", while discretely directing our attention, while rolling his eyes, to another table with a huge platter of chips in the middle of a variety of Chinese dishes. A quick check, and the printed menu did offer chips as a substitute for rice. Hell, it's not just what some peoples can prepare properly. Some can't even order properly. |

I'll be delighted to join you on the 16th Alice
I'm very pleased right now because two innovations have just come into my life: the first is prescription sunnies with reactive lenses. why did i not do this years ago? i can now go through the blackwall tunnel without a) fumbling to remove sunnies with one hand whilst driving with the other, or b) leaving sunnies on and experiencing something like a bad acid trip combined with a futuristic disco event horizon plus added blindness. i've also been to urban rider and picked up a set of d3o shoulder armour. remember how we slated this stuff when it first came out? it's come a long, long way in a few years and is now standard in top-of-the-range gear like rukka, held, furygan, etc. I've now got a set in my Corazzo 5.0 and it's changed the profile completely. No more linebacker/Joan Collins in Dynasty look! I'm now thinking of replacing the shoulder armour in all of my jackets just so i can say that i'm wearing a non-newtonian fluid. they do elbow and back protectors too ![]() |

Orange armour! Want!
I love my photoreactive glasses but they're not quite quick enough to save me from scary near-blindness in road tunnels. |

One trick that OAD told me about when riding in the mountains and going through tunnels in daylight is to close one eye tightly shortly before entering the tunnel then once inside open it. Pupil gets a few moments to dilate so you can see sooner in the dark. It worked for me.
