I think paranoia can often be a necessary thing in certain jobs, particularly those that deal with security and government issues. The problem is that you can end up with it informing everything.

Imv, that's because most terrorism that succeeds is by definition something that you were not briefed about beforehand. And that is normally attributable to some institutional failure that you can do nothing about at the time so I too would be considering hiding under the bed if I heard what Trepp did.

For instance, how do you manage a group of machete wielding villagers in the middle of nowhere - this appears not to be dealt with in the "information on local customs" leaflet...

Dammit Alice. I wouldn't blame you if you started looking elsewhere.
Wings and spread spring to mind.

The opposite has happened to me at work as my boss keeps calling me an asset to the company which is very flattering.
Sadly it won't get me any further up in the company but it's nice to hear it.

Work eh ? Who needs it.

Sorry Alice. At least they got right back to you eh? And yeah, I'd start looking around, there has got to be a better fit for your voluminous skill-set. It's clear that they don't deserve you.

And Bill, are you quite sure that he's not calling you an "ass hat" to the company? I had that happen to me once

I missed your earlier post, Alice. They would have been lucky to have you... but unless you are some titled peer with money stashed everywhere, I'd suggest you continue phoning it in to your current job and line up a new gig before tendering your resignation.

Not many can afford principles these days.

Good luck, my friend... whatever you decide.

Hey Alice, that's a bummer, especially since you are doing the job anyway.

I took my Street Triple in to have its head bearings replaced (failure to spot that they were loose on PDI grr) and was asked how I was getting into town. I responded that I'd booked a courtesy bike, only to be told that I hadn't (I had, so at this point I am getting a bit irritated).

After a lot of pursing lips and slow intakes of breath, I was asked, would sir like an America or an Explorer? I chose the ExploDer Laughing emoticon For such a behemoth, it was surprisingly easy to ride, though I didn't particularly like it. I made them remove the panniers, as filtering all the way from Romford to the City in rush hour traffic didn't really float my boat... the bike behind is a BMW R1200RT for size comparisons!

Ahhh at last the weekend.

There's a vintage boot fair and car rally on the South Bank tomorrow where a friend of mine will be exhibiting his Rolls Royce Camargue.

It only costs £4.00 and there will be lost of scooters on display.

Cool runnings
Had a go at a Pot Luck meeting with the LAM lot. Was very good again-lots of good riding and even better advice on improving our rides. Added bonus of seeing the lovely Doug as well.
I'm looking forward to future sessions including one where we have been told that we can practice plugging tyres with tyre fixing kits-a skill I would like to acquire before I need it!

Ah, but it was all too short.. you got pulled away to the newbie corner all too quickly! I'm glad it went well... My score went up into the 80s, so I'm dead chuffed. My observer started talking about booking tests, so pleased seeing that was my first Observed Ride on a geared bike. On another note my observer nearly crashed whilst doing a demonstration ride (not overly impressed, actually as I could see it all unfolding up ahead ). Anyhoo it was a lovely day. I left at 8.30 this morning and didn't get in till 5pm.

I spent the afternoon riding this for a test ride, just because I was intrigued. It's marmite though, purely because I'm not sure the I like V-twins. What it is though, is ultra-quick (150 bhp), torquey (84bhp), light (196kg) and starship fast. It is also dead easy to low-speed manoeuvre. I give you the Ducati Multistrada... Don't worry folks, I'm not about to buy one; not yet anyway!

You know, that's just what it felt like. At least the Multistrada has a wet clutch so doesn't sound like that too, unlike other Ducatis. I couldn't not be entertained by the thing, though and after loads of B road overtakes, I had a rather stupid grin on my face. Problem was that I was shaking my head at the same time. Two of the LAM lot had them today, Norton and Paul H.

When you say flat do you mean boxer or parallel? The Ducati was stupid expensive; you could buy 4 GTSs for the price of the top of the range. And I bet Ashbrook could still outrun me!

As an Associate I don't think so, but as a Full Member you should be able to. I often go on BWAM rides with Howard, and he comes to LAM ones; I just ask the ride organiser in advance, and the response is generally 'the more the merrier'.

Ash, is the tyre plugging Dave Wilkins' workshop day - on Sunday 30th, I think? Highly recommended; I got a free brake pad change as part of the demonstration, and it gave me the confidence to perform roadside puncture repairs, a skill I've needed more often than I'd like...

I actually haven't left the house today, even though it's so gorgeous. I had friends round for lunch, so I spent the morning cooking, then we were eating and talking (they brought the ingredients for Campari spritzers). And, er, then I had a nap.
