I've just fallen into my own trap by talking about the weather.

We as a Nation like to complain when it's cold ( and believe me over the past 4 years we've had every right to ) then as soon as the sun comes out we complain when it's hot even though it's what we've been pining for.
That's why I live in California. The weather is generally perfect, so we get to complain about the price of real estate instead.
oh, we do that too. house prices in london would make you cry.
I think over here it goes something like...
1. The weather
2. The economy/the recession/the government
3. Fuel Prices
4. House prices

Ooh. I haven't organised one as I only got one taker last year (take a bow, Ashbrook!), but I could dust off the route if anyone were interested?

We go straight for real estate prices. That's the most difficult thing in the Bay Area, I think. After that it's traffic, and then when we've exhausted that, someone might mention that it's not quite as temperate as it was 10 years ago.

Everyone knows that an initial conversation about the weather isn't a conversation about the weather at all.
It's a safe platform to start a conversation about something more interesting.

If the first thing that a stranger came out with was how much is your house worth ? it would be a little freaky.

Never trust a builders estimate of time

Was talking to Graham earlier about how to get round his own scaffolding challenge, just the same as yours..(what are the chances of that?!)

Hope you get sorted Genie.

PS Getting the Alfa back on Monday. They've replaced an ignition switch, (tough job that, took 9 days of silence ) and can't replicate the 'intermittent' fault. It has an RWO type ring to it.. I've decided that Guilietta rhymes with 'make it better' and my white one maybe a shite one...

I'm around from the afternoon of the 6th until early evening of the 8th. In other words midweek. Not very conducive for a ride out unless the destination is an unemployment office.

Also, while I can get away with a pure veg restaurant from a kosher standpoint (if I squint), fish sort of crosses the line. But heck, if anyone wants to toss me on the back of their scoot one afternoon while I'm in, I can pass on the food and go straight for the beer. After all, for a change I won't be driving!

Does the restaurant meal AND a mini ride out on the same night (Weds 7th Aug) work? I know most people were coming by tube, but I'll ride down anyway and a spare lid for Trepp is no problem 8) Maybe the tubers would ride if it was a group thing...a mini scenic evening group tour of a few sights for our guest?

Works for me!

doesn't really work for me i was planning on coming on public transport so I could have a drink with dinner

in other news: the scaffold is down, the front garden is tidied up, and the scooter is back in its rightful place it spent one night at doug's. i was overjoyed when the scaffolders knocked on my door at 8 on Saturday morning and announced that they were there to dismantle it. made a lot of noise, and left a good deal of mess, but i was so glad to see the back of the damn thing.

Vorsprung durch technik
Got the Alfa back this morning after 9 days in the workshop, one call from the dealer to update on progress and a 'we think we've fixed it' sort of response to replacing a part.

In contrast, I ordered a load of parts for the GTR restoration online early Sunday morning from SIP Scooter in Germany. In 24 hours, I've had two emails and a text telling me the status of my order, which staff member has done what, when and at what time, and my order is now complete and on its way. The emails included 'We would like to thank you for your order and wish you a great time with your scooter!' and 'greetings from Landsburg'. I'm sure everyone of the 4000 customers that were online at 6.30 Sunday morning go that too but it costs nothing and is a nice touch.

Thank you Gudrun and Juliane at SIP for fixing up my order, it was a pleasure.

Thanks to the team at the Alfa Dealer, but hmmm, no quite so much - given the choice I rather not have been towed in to see you

Go figure.

also: the temperature gauge was registering 35C as I rode home from my chiropractor appointment at about 1 today. i was quite cool and comfy in my tucano mesh.
