I purchased my scooter about 12 years ago. I was fully niave and pretty much still am. I purchased from a now out of business shop called Scooter Station, Portland, Oregon. Fully restored, but I only got a bill of sale, not a title.
My question is how bad did I F***k up by not having a title, and with all the bodge information I have absorbed from this site, I am not convinced mine is not one.
A local has offered me 3k, which would be a loss.
Please advise, and be honest, as my wife once claimed I have no feelings.
I will see if photobucket is working, and post a pic or two.
Thanks, Jeff

I would not care to make a judgement based on this picture. I would have to turn a few wrenches and screws before I say anything.

Doesn't look like a bodge to me.. in fact I kinda like it.. at least from here... If you got 3k you'd be doing good, but IIWY (and if you want the bike) I'd try and figure out how to title it.. not sure about your state, but there's gotta be a way!

Again, if you just don't want it, snatch that 3k and be pretty darn happy!

I think it's a cool 8" bike!

More pics please, if you want opinions on what you have there. Looks 'interesting' so far, some nice details. Let's see the speedo & the motor.

I know titling is next to impossible with only a BOS in Oregon where you bought it, but doable in Washington and supposedly easy in Vermont. For your state I have no idea, but maybe someone else here does or search out your DMV website & dig in.

Could be a nice bike, no obvious red flags I can see except where you got it - but who knows where they got it? If you are still inexperienced after 12 years, you might just take the money & for that much you can find a near perfect, newer P with a title that would work better for you. 3K seems like decent money for you if the bike's NOT sketchy, you won't do a lot better.

Seem like a decent scooter from where I am sitting. Of course, I'm squinting and seeing double because I've been drinking rum for 10 hours.

Repop speedo, but nothing else sticks out.

In NY we have NO titles for pre 1973 scooters/motorcycles,
we get a transferable registration from the NY DMV. All we need
to do have is have a bill of sale. I've registered many scooters,
and a Lambro in NY without a title. And I've sold them without a
problem as well.
None of my pre 1973 scooters have titles.

3k is a good price for that scooter, if you want to sell, take
the money and run.

It's clear from that angle that the engine is missing... Something else is wrong cant quite put my finger on it.

Some advice I received from my father - "better to sell it and regret it, than keep it and regret it", or something along those lines. Do you ride it, enjoy it? Or does it just sit around? Good luck with your decision.

I bought the scoot because it is cool. I was/am unprepared for the responsibility of maintaining a older scoot. Every time I open my tool box something bad happens.
Thanks all for the advice and smartass remarks

That vin plate is in a weird place for sure, but what does it say? I'm interested to see what it claims this is.

That said, what problems have you run in to? The paint's kinda cool, especially the detail above the steering lock. Like nicely-detailed lugs on a Colnago road bike or something. And no complaints about the color.

My German market PK has some kind of VIN plate in the same place & that 'Hersteller Piaggio' sounds German as well...

Might be worth more than 3k if it is 'German'.... but probably not a lot.

I vaguely remember that shop, cant remember if they were legit or not. (I lived in or around Portland from '90 till '08). I know there are a few Portlanders on here. I'd personally reach out to a club like Twist n' Play http://twistnplay.wordpress.com/ and reach out to Patrick from PTown scooters http://m.facebook.com/pages/Ptown-Scooters/175090774756?id=175090774756&refsrc=http%3A%2F%2Fptownscooters.com%2F&_rdr . They may know some history on that scoot or even be able to get you in contact w/ the former shop owner. They also may know how to go about titling the bike in Oregon. There also looks like there is a rally in Portland in a couple weeks. Good luck.

Scooter Station
926SE 34th Avenue, Suite 1B
Portland, OR 97214

Purchased from Florian Vorwerk

I must say the scoot has been pretty good to me, all the problems were created by me. Like leaving the gas/oil in too long and farking up the carb and gas tank.

I see I paid $4100 including shipping. Oh well win some loose some.

So today I sold the VBB.

Took a donkey kick to the nards on the sale price.

Needed the cash so Mr. Potter wins over George today.

Thanks to you all for the advice, keep my drinking thread alive and well.

I will lurk and enjoy all the cool scoots you all have

That was a sweet looking bike. But ... there are a lot of sweet looking bikes out there.
Quote:
Mem'ries,
Light the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories
Of the way we were
Scattered pictures,
Of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another
For the way we were
Can it be that it was all so simple then?
Or has time re-written every line?
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me, would we? Could we?
Mem'ries, may be beautiful and yet
What's too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget
So it's the laughter
We will remember
Whenever we remember...
The way we were...
The way we were...
