People mount the Rotopax on their front rack so I don't see why not. You may need a back plate but you should be able to find something at the hardware store that will work or use a piece of wood.

Yes, the red is quite stark.
Laws in most US States use variations of this language in regulations regarding portable gasoline containers: "To be approved, a container must be predominantly red in color and ...The container also must bear a warning label about the dangers... The container must not be covered or hidden... " |

There is a variety of confusing regulations concerning gas cans. DOT publishes the regulations concerning what is approved for transporting fuel in amounts of 5 gals or less. OSHA has specs for containers used in the work place, and EPA and CARB address some environmental concerns. Also, there is a difference between "Safety Containers" (primarily a workplace issue) and "Fuel Containers" (primarily for non-workplace storage and transporting fuel). OSHA recently said they would accept DOT containers for most workplace applications.
Various states have regulations pertaining to the type of container a service station can dispense fuel into. However, putting a cover on a DOT approved fuel container as part of transporting it does not appear to void the approval. That said, I would hesitate to paint a plastic can, as it could diminish the integrity of the container. |

Growing up in India we used to read Commando comics when I was in grade school, they would always mention "jerry cans" and I remember seeing them on old Willys jeeps mounted behind the spare wheel.
On googling "jerry cans for vespa" I found this https://blog.scooter-center.com/en/jerry-can-for-vespa-lambretta-scooters-and-motorbikes/ |
